Location: Greenlaw Near Duns

Duns 7 miles.

Lying twelve miles over the border into Scotland and nestling to the south of the Lammermuir Hills, the rural village of Greenlaw, beside the river Blackadder, was once the county town of Berwickshire. This is an ideal location for exploring the eastern Scottish Borders and Northumberland. Edinburgh is only a 40 minute drive away, making this an excellent base for enjoying the festival, tattoo or just for visiting this historic city. Sitting right on the A697, Greenlaw is easy to find, and is central to the many visitor attractions - abbeys, castles, stately homes, gardens and country parks, museums, the famous river Tweed, forests and craft workshops - so there is plenty to see in the area. You can visit the Mellerstain, Thirlestaine, Manderson, Paxton, Abbotsford, Floors, The Hirsel and Holy Island, as they are all only a short drive away. Walking and cycle routes, tennis, bowling, horse riding, golf and fishing, swimming pools, the sea and nature reserves mean there is lots to do in the area.

The Property

Once a woollen mill and then the village bakery, The Bakehouse offers comfortable accommodation in the traditional borders village of Greenlaw, with charming shops and family-run pubs just a short walk. Set away from the road in a walled courtyard, this semi-detached Greenlaw cottage has been tastefully refurbished and well equipped, but has lost none of the original character. Indeed, the old commercial oven is still at the centre of this Greenlaw cottage, with the front of the oven forming one wall in the sitting room. The River Blackadder runs alongside this lovely Greenlaw cottage, and fishing on the river is available in season. Duns is the nearest town in the area and is just a ten minute drive away, offering a greater selection of shops, pubs and visitor attractions. This cosy and comfortable Greenlaw cottage is ideally placed for visiting the many attractions available all year round in the Scottish Borders.

Previous visitors' comments about The Bakehouse:

It was a very relaxing holiday. The owner was most accommodating and the property was excellent. This was the first time I had tried a holiday of this kind and the whole experience was superb.
Mr Calverley, Loughborough, September 2012

The cottage was very well equipped and internally accurate to what was described on the website. The location was ideal for getting around the eastern borders of Scotland and north Northumberland.
Mrs Beaumont, Wakefield, September 2012

Quiet and secluded. Car port with plenty of room for three cars. Heating plentiful. The owner is very helpful. Village has a good store, excellent butchers and the fish shop when open is well worth a visit.
Mr Hickey, Bishop Auckland, August 2012

We were given a very friendly welcome by the owner. The cottage is very spacious and in a good location, everything is within easy reach. It offers plenty of space for a family of 5 and we particularly liked the fact that Edinburgh was just 40 mins drive away.
Mrs Soden, Loughlinstown, June 2012
