  • "The cottage was amazing, when we arrived it was immaculate and there were added extras such as milk, orange juice, biscuits, bread and butter."

The kitchen was kitted out with everything you need including cleaning products. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable but if I had to be picky I was disappointed there wasn't a dressing table but it really wasn't a big deal. The views from the hot tub were breathtaking, the hot tub itself was well maintained. There was access to the private swimming pool with a well managed rota, it was clean and warm. Whether you are wanting a walking holiday, relaxation or a big family get together I would highly recommend.

The views were stunning from every window. Sitting in the hot tub felt luxurious with the breathtaking views of the fields, sea and castle and was again spotless. Loved the chickens...they were very friendly! Thank you for leaving the bread, butter, milk and juice...it was a lovely touch. Have already booked for next year! Can't wait to come back! The cottage was pristine on arrival, and it was a lovely touch to have bread, milk etc there for us. Hot tub has the best view (ever?), and was great to keep warm in as we rotated through the shower post-swim. Had great games of cricket and football on the field, and enjoyed the easy access walks to Craster and Lower Newton. Just what was needed for us all, so thank you. We’re already planning our return!

The hot tub and pool were a big hit with the whole family. The only thing we missed was a smart tv in the evening. In this day and age, access to YouTube and other streaming service cues is essential for the younger people. This small addition would have perfected what is an excellent the property for us.

The corner sofa in the living room was too low and the back consisted of loose cushions which did not support your back when sitting. The locking latch on the hot tub needs some attention as it blew closed in the wind. Overall the cottage has marvellous views of the countryside and coast.

  • "Our 4th stay at North Farm and the third at Bank Top Cottage."

It's perfect for us. The location , views, amenities, everything is spot on. The cottage itself is spotless, comfortable, peaceful. This time we arrived to find some basic supplies - bread, milk etc which was lovely. Sitting in the hot tub with the sea and the castle in view is brilliant. The chickens are a delight, and use of the pool is a great benefit. Food nearby at Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel, or the Joiners Arms, The Ship , all within walking distance and all excellent . Slightly further but reachable on a longer walk is the Jolly Fisherman at Craster. We've booked again . We can't think of a time when we won't return. If you are unsure I guarantee a walk on the stunning beach will see you returning to the cottage and placing a deposit for your next visit. If there was anything to change it would be to upgrade the TV to a smart TV, the DVDs are good but nowadays streaming is so much easier.

  • "I think to label North Farm as luxury is quite a stretch."

It is basic but clean. There were no matches, and only enough logs for one nights fire, there are no extra blankets for cooler nights, one toilet roll, not even a single washing machine tablet, no leaflets on things to do or see in the area, and my biggest annoyance is the crazy loud fridge, shattering the peace day in, day out. Definitely not luxury. Not having use of the hot tub on your last day is extremely disappointing. Sours what should be your last day of relaxation. The location is excellent. The cleanliness couldn't be faulted. But due to the factors listed, I'm not sure that we would return which is a shame because as mentioned, the location is great. I do also worry what impact the large building currently going up on site will have on the overall tranquility of the place.

  • "The most uncomfortable cottage we have stayed in."

Beds and settees dreadful really cheap. Arrived at 5 pm after a 4.5 hrs journey. Not a light on and no heating on in January! When stripping the bed found out why we were sweating there was a plastic sheet on it. The heating is yampy you either freeze or sweat. Mainly because the radiators are undersized in the large room. If you shut the bedroom and bathroom doors to keep heat in the bedrooms are like furnaces. Swimming pool lovely but temperature of water is freezing. The only thing going for this cottage is the position.

  • "Absolutely beautiful cottage and perfectly situated."

Just a few things that might make the stay more comfortable for future guests. The tap in the kitchen drips constantly after use and the double bed could use a new mattress. Other than that, we could not fault our stay. The walk down to the beach was beautiful. We would love to come back in the future.

  • "The mattress in the main bedroom wasn't very good, the worst we have seen and despite the luxury tag there was no welcome pack and the essentials were a minimum."

The TV was tiny and it was annoying that we didn't use the hot tub (as requested by owners) for cleaning but it wasn't cleaned till the next day so we could have enjoyed the last night in our hot tub. The pool booking idea was lovely and the cottage itself was fantastic.

  • "We loved the stay and the facilities for children were really fantastic but there were a couple of small things we felt could be improved."

The curtains were very thin causing the kids to wake up very early- black out blinds would be a great improvement. Also we found the quilts very thick for summer and would have liked some thinner sheets or blankets to be available. Also I think description of the walk to the beach was a little misleading as it was about 40 minutes with children and a little too far for them

The only slight issue we had is that there was no outside table and chairs. We had a bench which sat two people at a pinch and a child's size picnic bench. We had expected patio furniture to enable us to sit and eat outside and this would have made the cottage perfect for us. Having said that, this did not affect our fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage and we would return again.

  • "Bank Top is in a wonderful position and the North Farm Cottages complex is excellent."

I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone. The cottage was excellent, view superb with a lovely 20 minute walk across the fields to the beach and all brimming with wildlife. We had Brown Hares right up to the front door late evening and early morning, and saw Fox and Roe Deer. The birds - Skylarks, Yellowhammers , Swallows, Wagtails, and Reed Buntings around Newton Pond were in abundance, as well as Eider ducks with their ducklings, on the sea. The Farne Islands is an amazing experience , though I was concerned about the effect that the number of visitors was having on the site and the birds; some were abusing the Arctic Terns just to get photographs, which was not right. This was our first visit to Northumberland and we loved it. Embleton is a very convenient centre, with a garage/small shop and petrol at a comparable price, Post Office/small shop and several places for a meal , including the Dunstanburgh Hotel which was very good. Spectacular scenery, friendly people, hardly any traffic, beautiful empty beaches, coastal walks second to none, and all litter-free - a rare treat !! What more could you want ?! A beautiful and unspoilt part of the countryside.

About the location

EMBLETON

Craster 3 miles; Beadnell 4 miles; Alnwick 7 miles.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.
