  • "Lovely clean comfortable cottage, very well equipped in a really nice position in Amble."

Adjacent to the harbour and only a short walk to the shops & high street. Lots of pubs, restaurants & coffee shops literally on the doorstep.. Great base to visit the wider area. The walk from Amble to Warkworth and back is recommended.

  • "The owner accepted our very short notice booking within an hour (very grateful)."

Amble is a great base for an adventure trip, the cottage is in a perfect location, accommodating us and 2 dogs comfortably, with the beach 50 yards away. Dogs not allowed on the beach between May and September, but we were lucky. Its a short drive down to Whitley bay, and up to Lindisfarne. Cottage central heating kept it warm and cosy, all the equipment you might need is there and in good clean working order. Good value for money

Thank you for your feed back. I will forward your comment re the “dust webs” in the bedroom to our housekeepers. Had you mentioned this during your holiday the housekeepers would have come out to rectify this straight away. We do not offer welcome packs nor do we advertise that there will be one. Nor do we price to cover this. The reason , most are left unused. Do guests require full fat milk , organic, semi skimmed, long life etc. tea, coffee and which type of tea, coffee. chocolate ? • "Dated, depressing and unclean located in a hostile and unfriendly environment."

Not relaxing at all due to persistent early noise from car boot sales, markets and general mayhem in the car park directly behind the terraced house ( not a cottage!)

Thank you for your feedback. Any suggestions to improve Redgate is welcome. On your points made. The cottage/ house was fully decorated in March this year. Magnolia and white. A new 47 inch Smart Tv . A new oven New double mattress. It is equipped with Sky Q multi room tv. And the fastest broadband available. and most normal technological equipment found in a normal house. If you found the house Redgate in a hostile area then I am sorry. However Sykes cottages have several houses/ cottages in this area with sea views and views to Walkworth castle. Feedback of 93/100 does not tally with your comments. There is a car boot on Saturday and a market on Sunday. There is not a car park behind the House/ cottage . It is owned by the harbour commission and is an area designated for harbour activities. Unloading fish from Boats. There is also a private road behind the cottage where you may park. At least Two cars wide. As well as the on street parking on one of Ambles widest roads.Unusual for a terraced house in Amble All terraced houses of a stone built nature are described by Sykes as Cottages. You could clearly see that it was a terraced house from the pictures advertising it. Also it’s hostile location with splendid estuary views. There is a notice asking guests to report unsatisfactory cleaning to the housekeeper immediately, so it can be attended to. Our policy is to provide guests with the best possible holiday experience. • "Adequate for 3 stars But: kitchen cooking utensils, especially oven not very clean."

Cutlery poor quality. Tourist info out of date and just thrown into a drawer which was difficult to open because one drawer knob was missing! Pillows very poor. Why only a double bed when there is plenty of room for a king size? Location very good. Amazing sunsets.

Thank you for your feedback. Had you telephoned myself or the number on the help notice on the wall as you walk in the housekeepers would have come out immediately to resolve the oven cleaning issue. It was however fully cleaned in April, and it is not usual for it to need cleaning after 5 weeks light use. Our housekeepers prefer guests to contact them if they have issues at the time so they can be addressed for guests, rather than you putting up with it then then leaving a review after your holiday. They pride themselves in wanting to make your experience as good as possible. Regarding the tourist info, we used to put it in a booklet however we found guests would remove these to take out with them . Therefore the folder became a mess. Most people today will see a leaflet advertising n event or place and then Google it on their phone. There is also a tourist information centre in Amble , 5 minutes walk from Redgate. I am sorry a handle was missing from the draw , this will be repaired immediately. Thank you for reporting this. Cutlery provided is standard supermarket quality of which there is approximately 20 place settings , also similar for all crockery. Large amounts are provided to allow the dish washer to be filled even though the house only sleeps 3. Pillows were replaced in April again of a standard quality. There are 8 pillows for 3 people , more than adequate. The standard size bed allows 10 inches to walk past at the end of the bed(see the photo on Sykes cottages, a king size would reduce this to 7 inches. Not enough room to vacuum in such a narrow space , also some people have disabilities and need the space especially if a walking stick / aid is needed. Hence why a standard size bed is provided. But thank you for your opinion. I am pleased you did like the location and sunsets. Kind regards owner. Property Owner

We enjoyed the excellent position of the cottage close to the harbour and town centre, The estuary views were lovely at sunset. We appreciated the availability of equipment and basic essentials in the kitchen. The pod coffee maker was not used because we find this an expensive and unsatisfactory way of making coffee. We ended up buying ourselves a cafetière to make filtered coffee. The heating schedule was limited, coming on late morning and afternoon.

Thank you for your feedback it is much appreciated. I’m sorry that you felt that the Pod coffee maker is not to your liking. However I purchased it as a result of previous guests requesting one to be provided. I’m sure you enjoyed your coffee non the less. To explain fully the heating settings are as follows. 20 degrees from 7.45 am to 9.15 am Also 5.00 pm to 11.15pm. All other times the heating is set to 18 degrees. Most people are out of the house during these times in the day time. Guests are able to alter these settings to suit themselves with the simple to use thermostat either higher or lower. These settings are in line with government recommendations for normal use, particularly with the current hike in energy prices. These settings and how to change them is fully explained in the house ‘How to guide’ found in the living room Additionally the house has a 8 kw log burner capable of heating the entire house to 25 degrees as happened during the Beast from the east! Approx 3 days worth of logs are also provided . Property Owner

Great facilities and location only used the car once. Only disappointing thing is a 5pm check in it used to be 2 which is ideal to unload car and get out. Also there were only enough logs for one night where usually there is enough for about 3 nights.

Thanks for your mainly positive feedback, The 5pm check in is a Sykes cottages arrangement for all cottages to allow house keepers the extra time to clean. Now we are coming out of restrictions I see this changing. I apologise for the lack of logs, our housekeeper should fill the log box and obviously they didn’t. I will remind them especially in winter months. There is a tel number you can ring if anything is not to your satisfaction at the time. Our housekeepers would come out and rectify things for you. They prefer that than guests waiting till they get home and then expressing their dissatisfaction. Hope to welcome you again at Redgate or Seascape. Best wishes Owner. Property Owner

We spent Christmas week here and were delighted to find a Christmas tree and a few decorations had been put up for us. That was a lovely touch which was much appreciated. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need for a week’s self catering, even at Christmas. There are a couple of things that would take this cottage from a good to a great rating. The mattresses are very soft and the bedding is very old and tired. The thermostat for the central heating is on the wall above the wood burner, so as soon as you light the fire, the central heating switches itself off. Result: cold bedrooms and an unpleasantly cold bathroom. This would be a simple fix - move the thermostat away from the fire!

Thank you for your comments. All mattresses are Orthopedic Memory Foam and all bedding is shortly being replaced. The Thermostat is set at 25-27 degrees so there should be ample heating throughout property. The radiators can be adjusted individually to allow extra heating. Kind regards Property Owner

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
