About the location

Amble-by-the-sea

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters - the daily catch can be bought at a fish shop in the harbour. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award winning gardens, and the National Trustís Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

The house was great and the owner was really pleasant and helpful.

Mrs Purcell, Hull, September 2013

The owner of the property, is really friendly and greeted us when we got there and was there when we left to say goodbye. The lounge furniture is really comfortable. Loads of room for us to hang our clothes, and plenty of room in the kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lilian's Retreat.

Mr Holdbrook, Redruth, August 2013

The cottage was in a good location for visiting all the Northeast coast line we went from Newcastle to Berwick on Tweed, lots of interesting places to visit and had an excellent time. Whitley bay was one of our favourite places and the Millennium bridge in Gateshead and a must for the ladies was the Metro centre there as well.

Mrs Partington, Bolton, June 2013

Lilian's friendly welcome and helpfulness. Practical, clean and comfortable house. Good location for visiting places of interest and the beautiful beach

Mrs Walters, Spalding, June 2013
