About the location

Amble-by-the-sea

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters - the daily catch can be bought at a fish shop in the harbour. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award winning gardens, and the National Trustís Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

We liked the location, quality of accommodation and friendliness of owner.

Mr Lazzari, Rochester, March 2014

A lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage. Everything you could possibly need was there, the heating is very efficient. The owner was lovely. You won't be disappointed.

Mrs Mccartney, Stalybridge, February 2014

Beautiful cottage with superb kitchen and bathroom in a super location, just seconds walk to the coastline and local amenities. Free WiFi was great and a must have these days. The Northumberland Coast is stunning and some great beach-side villages.

Mr Patton, Manchester, February 2014

The holiday was so relaxing, being in an area with a huge choice of beaches to walk our dog each day. Compass House was truly a home from home, the owners made us feel very welcome.

Mrs Oddy, Boston, December 2013

The weather on the Northumbrian coast was bitterly cold, yet the cottage was very warm and cosy. A little haven.

Miss Aldridge, Wallsend, December 2013

Personal touches in the property; fresh Christmas floral arrangements, Christmas decorations including small tree, home made soup & bread waiting on arrival, fresh herbs in the kitchen.

Mrs White, York, December 2013

Owner very friendly and helpful. Location perfect, lots to see and do.

Mrs Lawrence, Market Harborough, November 2013

Very nice house in an enviable position so close to the sea,the pictures did not do the property justice. The welcome from the owner, was very warm and to find homemade soup and bread was a very nice touch. The vegetables grown on her allotment were delicious! We were so impressed with the house we are planning a return in the near future.

Mr Noble, Nottingham, September 2013

The cottage was very comfortable. In a great location. The cottage was spotless, and fully equipped. Great local butcher, fishmonger and bakers. Great fish and chip shop, and ice cream boutique (Spurellis) at the harbour. A great location for nearby beautiful beaches and great walks.

Mrs Turnbull, Glasgow, August 2013

The accommodation was first class and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. We have never been provided with fresh bread and fish before. They weren't intrusive but let you know they were there if you needed anything. We have had a number of self catering properties over the years and this rated one of the best, if not the best.

Mrs Sykes, Shipley, July 2013
