About the location

Alnwick 35 miles; Holy Island 10 miles; Edinburgh 56 miles.

Berwick is England’s most northerly town and changed hands 14 times whilst the English and the Scots fought for control of the Borders! Nowadays this small coastal town retains much of its charm, with quaint narrow streets enclosed within great Elizabethan walls - walks along these offer spectacular views over the coast and river estuary. The town offers excellent amenities including shops/supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, whilst the Maltings Arts Centre provides an extensive programme of cultural events including music, theatre and cinema. Fishing, golf and riding are all available locally and there is a leisure centre in the town offering a pool with waves and flume. Two miles away is the seaside resort of Spittal, with its sandy beaches. Berwick has excellent public transport and there is a frequent train service to both Newcastle and Edinburgh.

The cottage absolutely matched the description, so was what we had hoped for. The location was brilliant for us, remote but within easy access of the coast. Also that the cottage was so warm. Very comfortable and live in-able!

Mrs Nicholson, Ripley, December 2013

Very warm welcome and had 'welcome' packs for us and one for the dog! Cottage very cosy and comfortable. Very central for a lot of places to visit. Would recommend it.

Mrs Carter, Waltham Cross, September 2013

It was a lovely place to stay, nice to come back after a long day. Cosy, warm, felt like home from home. We felt we could happily live in it. It was in an excellent spot not far from other places of interest. We will hopefully visit the area again.

Mr Gleave, Winsford, October 2012

The location was excellent and very peaceful. The house was very comfortable and warm with constant hot water. We felt completely at home - lovely, thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers and a welcome basket were an unexpected surprise and made us feel as though the owner really cares about her guests' comfort.

Mr Lambert, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, July 2012
