Lots of comfortable spaces for the family to come together and equally enough room to escape for some alone time. The owners were very accommodating in providing all of the necessary information ahead of our visit and answering any questions during our stay. Would highly recommend the Cottage Kitchen Country Café for breakfast or if you fancy a cheeky coffee and cake. A visit to Emma Bridgewater in Stoke on Trent is also recommended and is only 30 minutes away.

  • "Really lovely house surrounded by beautiful countryside."

The house was nicely furnished and plenty big enough for a generational family of 12. It rained most of our stay but because the house was so nice inside, we really didn’t mind. The garden is very steep and we did have to keep a close eye on children and dogs as the garden is not fenced off. But there are footpaths and fields which lead off from the property so there’s plenty of space to run around, and seeing the steam train go past was an added bonus! Hosts were friendly and helpful, the only pointer I would make would be more kitchen equipment such as cutlery and bowls/plates would have been great.

Thank you so much for your comments Kimberly, it's unfortunate that the weather wasn't better for you, but pleased to hear that you enjoyed spending time in our Farmhouse even when it was raining. We have ordered and had delivered some more tea spoons and bowls, thank you for highlighting this. Have a fantastic remainder of your summer. Regards Matt, Liz and Family Property Owner

The separate Annexe was perfect for my daughter and her family with two small children. The main building was also perfect for all the adult couples. The kitchen was huge, a large table that could seat our whole group, and other rooms very spacious. Outside the patio area and barbecue was great and luckily we had good weather. The property is situated in a very quiet area but close to all facilities in Leek and some great places in the peak. The owner was extremely helpful and gave me a call to check everything was OK. I would thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "We are just back home from a week’s stay at Gorsthead Mill Farm."

We were a party of 6 and had a few family from the area visiting too. The property definitely has the curb appeal, located down a short private road and has plenty of space for various family and guest sleeping arrangements. Bed linen is obviously of good quality. The annexe can sleep 4, ideal as a ‘granny flat’ or for a 2nd family. Taking into consideration that this is an older property, it is in great condition and was presented very well equipped and clean. The heating in both buildings is run from hive thermostats and didn’t once feel the property was too cold. Quite disappointed that the heating was so good, really was looking for an excuse to use the log burner in the lounge

We are thrilled that you enjoyed your time so much at Gorsthead Mill Farm. We paid special attention to the small details such as bedding, towels, and also plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses etc, so we're pleased to hear these small details have been noticed. Thanks for the comment about curb appeal, we wholeheartedly agree, but we're a little biased. Hope to welcome you back one day. Regards Matt and Liz Property Owner

Curtains off poles Linings hanging off. Bizarre plumbing, Cold water, broken iron, broken ironing board there weren't even any dishwasher tablets or Dishwasher salt. Taps dripping . I could go on - While this was reported to the owner he did nothing about it.

Thank you for your feedback, I’m sorry to hear that the property didn’t live up to your expectations. We do take all comments and feedback in relation to the property very seriously. After we spoke on Sunday 2nd, I had offered to refund you for the expense of replacement dishwasher tabs etc, this was declined. Also as promised I arranged for the tap to be fixed, unfortunately Dyno informed me they weren’t able to gain access to the property. Further to this, I have spoken to the cleaning team to remind them of the importance to remember to leave out dishwasher tabs and salt. I also took the opportunity to let them know you’d provided 4 out of 4 for the cleanliness of the property. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property."

Had everything we needed and was perfect for our family get together for my husband's 70th. Well positioned for visiting all the sites round about and happy hours spent sitting round the dining room table and playing games in the living room in the evenings. Croquet was challenging trying to avoid balls going over the steep sloop on the garden. Pippin had a wonderful week but was a bit perplexed when her ball disappeared into the wilderness beyond the garden (fortunately there were several humans willing to retrieve it). Biggest improvement would be to cut back the vegetation on the roadside coming out of the property so drivers could see the fast traffic coming from the right and also a post or sign of some sort as it was difficult to see the entrance to the property. But otherwise would highly recommend.

Thanks very much for your feedback Mary, we are glad to hear you all had a fantastic time. We will take a look at the hedges at the main road with a view to improve visibility. Croquet sounds very much fun. Hope you had a safe trip home Regards Matt and Liz Property Owner

  • "Overall good and mostly what I expected."

The photo was misleading as I was expecting a larger lawn, essential as our party consisted of 5 children. The kitchen equipment was very good and the bedrooms in the main house good. My daughter didn't like the bedside basket tables as these were not stable enough for a wine glass!! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the children enjoyed the toy box and the garden, especially the ford. The only negatives from the adults in the party was that the property was looking a bit tired and I did think the torn armchair didn't help. The Annex games room we stayed in had a shower problem, in that it didn't adjust and the water was too hot and a shower screen problem as water went all over the floor. We all thought it was cheeky to ask for money for the logs, as we thought the price and the star rating should have included these.

Thanks for your feedback Patricia, this is all gratefully received. We’ve arranged a replacement shower and shower screen for the annexe, had the majority of the downstairs redecorated, installed new bed side cabinets in the end bedroom (which have been wine tested!). Additionally we will review the honesty box process for logs to ensure we are aligned with the industry. Hope to host you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "We booked the house as a surprise 65th birthday (family gathering) and the location, house and facilities did not disappoint!"

From start to finish we had a fantastic week and couldn't recommend highly enough. Communication with Matt (the owner) was great, emails were quickly answered and they even let us check in early to help us with the surprise - great service! The house is nestled away and although you feel secluded it is easly accessible and you can venture out by car or walking which we took full advantage of. The house has everything you need - the log fire is beautiful, a wonderfully equipped kitchen and plenty of bathrooms. We will certainly come back in the summer months to take advantage of the decked area.

The property

A stunning, designer detached country house situated in 2.3 acres of grounds in the village of Bradnop near Leek.

This superb house is perfect for a large family or group of friends looking for a bit of luxury to come home to after a day exploring the nearby Peak District.

The tastefully furnished entrance hall is an impressively large boot room, ideal for getting out of your walking boots and drying the dogs.

Then pass through to the large contemporary kitchen with a breakfast and dining area which is a fantastic place to gather while you discuss the dayÂ’s busy itinerary.

The sitting room is beautifully finished with high quality sofas and French windows opening out to the garden.

ThereÂ’s a woodburning stove to set the atmosphere while you sit and chat or enjoy a favourite movie together.

The contemporary design and quality continues through to the light and airy bedrooms, one of which opens out to a huge decked roof terrace where you can step out of bed and greet the morning sun or enjoy a glass of wine as the sun dips over the horizon.

As youÂ’d expect, the bathroom is very high end with a designer roll-top bath and large walk-in shower.

Across the courtyard is a separate garage annexe which has been cleverly adapted to create a first floor apartment with a double bed and a sitting area with a sofa bed, TV and games console making it a great place to park teenagers or a place to break away from the madding crowd.

The annexe also has a contemporary shower room, so it is completely self-contained if required.

Sit out on the patio and enjoy a barbecue as the kids run off the last of their energy.

The grounds are beautiful with countryside all around and a babbling river flows along the bottom of the garden where you can watch the wildlife and nod to the occasional passing farmer crossing the ford.

Tempting though it might be to spend your whole time here, there is plenty to do within easy reach, whether it's riding at the equestrian centre just up the road, exploring Leek, Hartington or Bakewell or driving the short distance into the breathtakingly beautiful Peak District with the Roaches nearby.

A luxurious retreat to be enjoyed any time of year.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
