Does get hot on sunny days though no opening windows in living room. But a well deserved 5 star rating.

  • "We had a lovely stay at The Wren in August ‘23."

It’s THE best self catering place I’ve ever stayed in and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need AND all those little extras that just make it feel like a ‘home from home’. The sofa (as mentioned in other reviews) is quite hard but then we didn’t go away to sit in front of the tv, we spent most nights sitting outside on the decking, gazing at the stars! Luna (my working cocker spaniel) thoroughly enjoyed the freedom she had with the enclosed decking. There are plenty of walks straight from the cabin and so much to do in nearby towns. We loved it so much, we’ve already booked a return stay for next year!

  • "Lovely property, very peaceful, clean, everything you could need for a nice relaxing break even a dog towel and dog bowl."

The cafe on the marina is great too and very convenient for a breakfast, lunch or snack. We thoroughly enjoyed getting away from it all in this lovely lodge.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at the Wren but found the settee uncomfortable in the lounge (as others have said)."

We had a huge number of 'sugar babs' floating around from the overgrown canal banks that got a bit irritating. It would have been nicer if the bank had been cut down so the canal was visible as well so we could view the passing boats better. The Marina and cafe were lovely and the site was very nice as a whole. The lodge was well fitted out in the kitchen. Fridge a bit small but we enjoy cooking so tend to have quite a bit of food with us. For younger fully fit people who enjoy walking or fishing it is ideal . Very clean and nicely finished.

  • "The Wren was an amazing place to stay."

Clean, well equipped with a modern feel. Beds were comfy, shower great and it has good space inside and out to relax. It really was a nice place to be for the week especially with our small dog. The location is nice and quiet with good walks along the canal. On site the marina has a cafe too which was excellent. Nearby villages had good shops. Hope we can stay there again. Thanks again to the owners.

The accommodation was well equipped and clean. Shower was just amazing! I enjoyed the absolute peace & quiet, apart from the odd moo and the barge going past. Just sitting on the deck and relaxing. My frenchie enjoyed the grounds and going to the cafe. They do a mean full English! Will be back soon!

  • "We really enjoyed our recent stay at the marina (The Wren Lodge)."

We were allowed to bring our pet and enjoyed spending time outside on the decking watching the narrowboats and being close to nature and beautiful scenery. It was the perfect place to unwind, I spent a lot of time on the canal on my paddle board. We had some nice walks and we managed to visit a few places nearby. The lodge was very clean and comfortable, very modern in design..t The staff were very helpful too.

Only comment was that the sofa was a little uncomfortable and a higher backed sofa would have been better.

Great for dogs too ,we felt like we were very private no passing public just the canal boats coming past occasionally. A great base to stay with lots of places to see , we enjoyed walking along the canal paths too.

  • "We loved our week at The Wren, including being serenaded by wrens!"

It's a comfortable lodge with everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing week. Especially loved the terrace and bbq for special evening meals. Lovely to find provided a leaflet with local walks which we enjoyed, especially the route to and through the local nature reserves. The breakfast at the marina is a must. Brilliant location to get away from it all, get back to nature and be able to see the sights in Shrewsbury, Llangollen, Chester and Liverpool.

Dog friendly, with canal side walks and a great Whixall Marina Cafe. The lodge has everything required for a self catering holiday and is modern & well maintained. This was our 2nd visit to the Wren and highly recommend it. We, including our husky were very pleased to discover the new path to Dobson's Bridge providing access to the canal walks. Thank You

  • "Had a wonderful holiday here."

So peaceful and relaxing. The lodge was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, very well thought out, with an abundance of lovely kitchen essentials and top quality extras. The decking area is perfect for a cuppa while watching the passing canal boats or stargazing after dark. The dog wasn't forgotten, he got a cosy blanket and bowl. My dog is a good boy but doesn't always get on with other dogs. He likes his own space and he got plenty of it, as the lodge is in a private field, and the one other lodge is pet free. We enjoyed the canal walks from the charming marina, guided by the excellent walking leaflet/map provided. There's loads of dog friendly things to do in the area. Plenty of National trust sites etc. We enjoyed Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Llangollen, Beeston castle and the Wroxeter Roman city. Thanks Sykes, your properties never disappoint. I'm just trying to decide when to rebook!
