  • "A hidden gem!"

Off the beaten path. So peaceful and quiet. We wanted somewhere close to family in Macclesfield but were looking for somewhere self-catering and peaceful - and this ticked all the boxes! So much better than a hotel stay. The cottage was really well appointed with all you could wish for in the kitchen and elsewhere. Nice and comfortable. Spacious. A selection of DVD's and games. Good selection of books about the Staffordshire area. LOTS of visitor attraction information in a folder to help plan days out. Very convenient for Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Liz, the owner, was there to meet us on arrival and she was lovely and welcoming, explaining all we needed to know to enjoy our stay at Wren Cottage. Good heating system for the one nippy night we had during our stay. We didn't use it, but there was a patio area with table out the back. Site felt secure. Parking just outside cottage. No road noise nearby. Very pleased with our stay and we would definitely stay here again.

Thanks for the lovely feedback its nice to be appreciated. Liz Property Owner

  • "Such a lovely little barn conversion."

It was perfect for our weekend - attending a family wedding just along the road at Heaton House. The property was warm, clean and well equipped. Comfy beds, towels and even toiletries provided if you’d forgotten them! It is an active little community - in the heart of such a friendly family. We were welcomed and I am sure, if we needed anything (we didn’t) or any advice about the area not to mention appreciating the horses, ducks etc on the site, it would have been happily given. Liz was so friendly and did not mind our late arrival after hold ups on the motorway. It is an area of the country we don’t know but would love to explore more - the walking guides in the house had so many tempting walks! Highly recommend for dog free couples and families with small children. Thank you for a great stay.

The owners were very nice helpful and they made our stay very comfortable with their personal touches like milk in the fridge when we arrived and cereal for the children. I would highly recommend this cottage and we hope to visit again in the future.

  • "The owner is a very nice lady who welcomed us to the cottage."

It is furnished to a high standard but VERY small. Personally I would not recommend for more than two people. We were warned that the Internet was intermittent but unfortunately this was not true - it was impossible to get online on any of our four devises for the duration of our stay. Despite reporting this no help was given to us. The location is not quiet being based right next to at least 2 family homes and built on the end of a workshop. If you don't want a quite location and can manage without the Internet I would recommend this cottage to your stay.

In 20 years of letting this property, 9 years with Sykes, we have never had such awful comments. We try to accommodate everyone's needs we know the property is small but that is evidenced by the photos on our advert. It is also recorded that we have limited internet signal. Interestingly, we have never had anyone complain about noise before, even when lambing is taking place and again the photos are evidence of its situation next to the farm. It is made clear that this is a working farm and the cottage is priced accordingly. Perhaps this customer should look at a property that is not in such a rural area, nearer a town or city. The hosts are very welcoming and showed us around the lamb sheds. The cottage is perfectly located - less than 10 minutes away from pubs, supermarkets and attractions like the Roaches, Tittesworth Reservoir and Rudyard Lake. We had a lovely retreat from city life. Highly recommended.

  • "The cottage was lovely and comfortable located in a beautiful farm."

The owners were very nice and welcoming. The kitchen could do with a few more things like sharp knives and baking trays for cooking.

Mrs. Davies thank you for your review and pointing out that the knives provided are blunt it will be dealt. With regard to your comment about to baking trays, other than the pizza tray and oven baking tray provided it would be helpful to know what else you expected. Thanks Liz Lowe Property Owner

Kids loved seeing the chickens and ducks wandering around. We all enjoyed watching the squirrel and woodpecker on the feeder in the garden! Fab holiday, wouldn't hesitate in recommending. • "This was an extremely comfortable cottage with very friendly helpful hosts ."

It was easy to find using the sat nav which took us straight there although we had also been sent excellent directions. The place was spotless and the beds comfortable .There seemed plenty of room as this cottage is well laid out. We are 2 older ladies and it was very suitable as it is all on the ground floor but it would also suit families as it seemed safe and there appeared to be places to play - it would be a good opportunity to introduce children to many different bird species which visited the garden daily -just wonderful to watch !! The only improvement would be an upgrade on the Wi-Fi particularly as the 3g and 4g signal is so poor in the area but on the up side we couldn't spend the evenings doing emails !!

Although small, it has not been cluttered up with unnecessary "stuff" so it feels bigger than it actually is. Owners were very friendly and approachable. We loved sitting on the patio listening to the birds and sheep. Watching the numbers of different birds visiting the feeders outside the patio doors was better than t.v.

  • "From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the owner Farmer Robert Lowe we just had a feeling that this would be an outstanding holiday."

The cottage was just charming though quite small, 'bijou' in fact, but that did not detract from it's charm.Mr Lowe showed us round and ensured that we had everything we needed, then told us that we could go anywhere on the farm that took our fancy, we could not imagine that we would need anything in addition to what was in the cottage, it was extremely well found, and proved to be very comfortable indeed. My wife, who is extremely 'fussy' was heard to say "Excellent, excellent, excellent.", Three E's from her is praise indeed. What else can I say?

Inside the cottage had everything we needed. All the family were very friendly. The only minor drawback was the poor WiFi and internet signal (which we knew about in advance.)

About the location

RUDYARD LAKE

The 2.5 mile-long lake, part of which is a conservation area, offers many activities including sailing, boating and fishing, as well as many lovely walks and cycle routes and is a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. There is a small shop and cafe on the lake, as well as a steam railway, a sailing club which offers courses for all abilities, and a hotel with a friendly bar and restaurant. The town’s cobbled market place has many examples of fine Victorian architecture influenced by William Morris, a reminder of when the town was a silk manufacturing centre.
