We arrived earlier than expected (by a couple of hours) which was no problem for our hosts. We are from Australia and were looking forward to Christmas with the whole family. We had snow, snow , snow and it was beautiful. The facilities at this cottage were exactly as advertised and fantastic for our family of 7 adults. There was a "real" Christmas tree for us and decorations. The kitchen was adequate to cook up a feast for Christmas Day. The beds were comfortable, the heaters very effective and bathrooms were modern. Our hosts even salted the steps for us. It is situated in a small hamlet, with walking tracks ( and a tourist railway in summer). There is a hotel there and a post box, but the nearest shops were in Leek, about 10 mins drive away. They were more than adequate for everything we needed. It is located within reach of the Peak District, Stoke-on-Trent (the potteries) and it would have been a short drive to Derby or Manchester if we wanted to go there. We had a very relaxing time.
Leek 3 miles; Asbourne 17 miles; Bakewell 24 miles.
The village of Rudyard enjoys a delightful countryside location. A certain Lockwood Kipling and his fiancée Alice Macdonald met on the shores of the lake and named their first-born son after the place. Rudyard Kipling (1865 – 1936), poet, novelist and short story writer has made this Staffordshire village world famous. The lake, a beauty spot and one of the most romantic places in Britain, is a family centre for picnics, boating, walking and fishing as well as the steam railway. Nearby Leek is a thriving town with good pubs and restaurants and many antique shops. Nearby the beautiful Manifold Valley cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists with the "Manifold Trail".

Excellent property, spacious with a large, enclosed garden for the girls to run around in. Plenty of local attractions. 'White Rose' pub in Leek; great for kids with an excellent play area and friendly staff.

Lovely comfortable, warm cottage. Smashing setting. We enjoyed the log fire and the piano! Good base for walks and bike rides. Two good pubs within short driving distance.
Mr & Mrs Bowe, Middlewich, February 2010
The cottage was in a beautiful location, picturesque and not far from services. We were lucky enough to have a White Christmas! Our hosts even provided a real tree and decorations. It was warm and cosy, with plenty of space for the whole family.
Mrs Sykes, Belmont, December 2009
The quiet and remote location.
