About the location

MARBURY

Whitchurch 3 miles; Chester 20 miles; Shrewsbury 25 miles.

Marbury is a picturesque village in Cheshire, 3 miles north east of Whitchurch. There are mere lakes to the south and east sides of the village, the largest of which is a fishing lake. At the heart of the village is the 15th century church of St Michael’s, next to which the annual Marbury Merry Days fair takes place each May. In the centre of the village stands The Swan Inn, a classic old English farmhouse pub which serves food and has a beer garden. There are wonderful local walks, some of which have featured in The Times, and the views from the top of Marbury Hill across the lake and the Cheshire plains are idyllic. The village is half a mile away from the Llangollen canal, ideal for long walks and nature spotting. The historic city of Chester is easily reached, with Roman walls, a pretty riverside, famous zoo and plenty of shops and eateries. To the south, the black-and-white buildings of Shrewsbury house an array of amenities, and the castle, cathedral and river all make great places to explore.
