Location: Whixall

Whitchurch 4 miles; Ellesmere 14 miles.

The rural scattered village of Whixall lies between the historic market towns of Whitchurch and Wem, and is close to the medieval town of Shrewsbury, and the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge. Part of the village borders the Llangollen Canal, as well as being in the boundaries of the 948 hectare Whixall Moss National Nature Reserve, one of the "jewels in the crown" of British wildlife. There are lovely walks along the canal and throughout the reserve, which is alive with bog plants and wildlife. Whitchurch is a delightful town which has many splendid buildings, from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times, all dominated by St. Alkmund's Church, and is internationally renowned for its clock production dating back to the 1650s. There are many excellent shops, pubs and restaurants in the town, which is perfectly placed for touring all of Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales. Close by is Ellesmere, with its beautiful meres (lakes), a variety of National Trust mansions and gardens including Attingham and Tatton Parks, the wonderful shops and zoo at Chester, the Wroxeter Roman City, the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge with its famous museums and the lovely medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

The location was very good as we could take nice walks along canal. It was very nice to see the cows outside the back door. The locals are very friendly.
