The pretty village of Fenny Bentley lies 2 miles north of Ashbourne. Life in Fenny Bentley revolves, as it has done for years, around the pub and the church. The Church of St Edmund dates back to the 14th century. Some particular features of the church are its 16th century screens and the alabaster Beresford tomb. The heart of the village is surely the Coach & Horses, a welcoming coaching inn with real ales. Just 2 miles away, the traditional market town of Ashbourne, once a fashionable social centre in the 18th Century, boasts an eccentric street plan, quaint cobbled alleyways, old market stalls and welcoming coaching inns. Many fine Georgian buildings remain and host a good selection of restaurants and interesting antique shops. For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by offering excellent walking and cycling opportunities, whilst the thrills and spills of Alton Towers are just a short drive away.

The cottage was small and cosy just what we wanted. It had everything we needed and more. The owners were lovely and very welcoming while totally giving us our own space. The local pub was a beautiful country pub with log burners and served great food. We will be visiting this cottage again and have already recommended it to friends and family.
