Location: Alstonefield

Ashbourne 8 miles; Alton Towers 10 miles.

The delightful village of Alstonefield lies on the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold Rivers. A village of real charm and character, Alstonefield has won the 'Best Kept Village Award' ten times (most recently in 2005) and been in the final of the 'National Village of the Year' award in 1998 - a remarkable achievement. A lovely village, it has a truly delightful country pub set on the village green and is surrounded by lovely verdant green countryside. The Manifold River cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists with the 'Manifold Trail' following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Nearby are pretty Ilam and Hartington with nice pubs and a wide range of shops and cafes, whilst further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.

Previous visitors' comments about Clays View:

Despite howling wind and rain for most of the week we stayed there, the cottage was warm, cosy and pleasant to be in. Lovely village. The George pub is a popular local that does good food. Very good for a couple plus a spare bedroom. Owners were helpful but not intrusive, a perfect combination.
Mr & Mrs Dearden, York, December 2011

Excellent location and high standard property.
Mrs Aherne, Epsom, May 2011

It was great all round and the location is fantastic to many tourist places.
Mr Saward-Clarke, Norwich, April 2011

It was a great cottage and what we appreciated was the constant amount of hot water. It is in an absolutely beautiful location and I shall be back. A lot of thought had been given to the equipment etc. It was excellent and the owners very helpful.
Mrs Murray, Derby, September 2010
