Holmesfield is a small village situated on a high peak between Bakewell and Sheffield, on the very edge of the Peak District National Park, and with commanding views of the Cordwell Valley. Surrounded by undulating countryside and deep valleys, the village is made up of a group of traditional old houses, interesting manors, a village hall and the parish church of St Swithins, built in 1826. There are many local amenities; the area boasts eight pubs and a number of fine restaurants, and is ideally located for exploring this interesting and beautiful area. Nearby, the impressive Damflask, Agden, Dale Dike and Ladybower dams make for an interesting afternoon's ramble, while the attractive village of Hathersage is also within easy reach, thought to be the inspiration for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre and home to a selection of shops, pubs and inviting eateries, and a lovely outdoor lido. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall to mention just a few, whilst the historic and ever popular town of Bakewell along with the lively city of Sheffield are both within a short drive. An ideal location whatever the time of year.

Previous visitors' comments about The Old Robin Hood:
The accommodation was fantastic. The owners were very helpful and the location was great.
Ms Thornton, Nottingham, July 2009
The cottage had all the equipment needed for 13 of us. It was also close to a number of pubs which we went in on the Saturday. The decor was lovely and only the best furnishing were used. The owner had left a file with all contact numbers in, takeaway menus and suggested activities in the local area. She also visited on the first night to ensure that everything was okay with the property and to check we had settled in.
Miss Meredith, Manchester, July 2009
The beds were wonderful!

The Robin Hood Cottage was superb & we would certainly use it again. It is an ideal house for a large group as you never felt 'on top of each other'. The area is fantastic for all kinds of activities what ever your interests & of course the beauty all around!
