Matlock 11 miles; Ashbourne 11 miles.
Belper, situated in the Derwent Valley, is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th Century, when it was then called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds true today. Now a spirited and bustling town, attractions include the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. Just 10 miles away the popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, is set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent. The Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a whole host of other exciting attractions. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family! South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst to the north lie the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House - not to be missed!

The owners, who live next door, gave a warm welcome and really useful information about the area.
Mr Burton, Stevenage, August 2011
The cottage was central to the sights we wished to visit. The owners were particularly friendly and received us with tea and cake and afterwards took us in their car to show us the local sights. The shops were also very easily accessible and nearby. Thank you Sykes for your excellent website and your assistance with booking the holiday, very efficient indeed.
