  • "My husband and I booked the cottage as it was dog friendly, we stayed for a week in September with our dog."

The cottage was very clean and well maintained , with a pleasant secure garden for warmer days. The real bonus however was the use of a large field for the dog. Would happily book this cottage again.

I couldn't understand why there were no bins in the bedrooms or living room. Otherwise we loved the spacious cottage and garden with field for walking dog.

Jane and John very accommodating. 2 adults and 2 kids plus the family dog. All amenities covered. We had an amazing week even with the weather being hit and miss. Would highly recommend, we will be back.

  • "We had a lovely stay!"

It's a great location to get to everything and Aldi is just a few minutes drive away. The owner was polite and explained how to use everything then left us to it. The only negative was a bit of a drain smell from the upstairs bathroom but it disappeared once we had used the shower and sink. The property is really comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. We would stay here again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage."

It was immaculately clean, comfortable and warm. The traffic was noticeable (as stated in their listing), but not distracting and didn't keep us awake.

  • "The owner was extremely helpful and very accommodating."

The property was fantastic in every aspect, clean well furnished and extremely comfortable. The garden and surrounding views were also wonderful. It is located in a good area with plenty to go see fairly nearby. We had a lovely comfortable, relaxing break and hopefully will be booking again in the near future.

  • "A lovely spacious cottage in a beautiful area."

The safe garden where the dog could play was good but having access to the field as well meant we could all appreciate the extensive views while exercising. The cottage was well equipped. A really relaxing stay.

  • "A characterful property."

The use of a field to the rear of the cottage to exercise the dog was fantastic. Ditto, the private fenced garden area. Owner was very friendly and helpful. We did not find the sound of traffic intrusive but appreciate the warning given in the description. Good location for visiting the area. A small welcome pack of tea/coffee would be a nice addition. Lack of wi-fi may be an issue to some guests. The electric shower had a low water pressure.

  • "Comfortable and pleasant accommodation."

Helpful owner. No wi-fi and poor phone reception. Local pub not great but good pubs and restaurants in Chapel en le Frith and Castelton. Good centre for holiday activities. Dog walkers a bit impaired due to sheep and lambs everywhere. Best place is reservoir just past Chapel. Also Beehive pub.

  • "Outstanding retreat for a quiet get away from it all."

Superb location if you have a pet with the private field. Beautifully decorated with original character. Extremely Clean and well fitted out. If you have young ones there is no wi-fi as listed and 4G is patchy, but we saw this as a bonus. The road mentioned in other reviews was hardly noticeable. If you wish to use the Devonshire Arms pub the walk is along the busy road and the opening hours are not all day when we visited closed Monday to Thursday. The only slight downside was the chairs were rather uncomfortable and the shower ran excessively hot or cold with a low pressure. We would highly recommend staying here and would do again. The late check in of 1700 is in our opinion too late especially if you are travelling from afar and with a pet as we were.

Wished we could of checked in earlier than 5pm a key in a key press would be good rather than depending on the owner being there. Beds would benefit from new mattresses nit very comfortable. No WIFI. Positive. Great location to explore Peak District and Manchester Alton Towers etc. Nice spacious accommodation, clean and a nice new kitchen, which was not in pics of the accommodation. Nice big garden and pretty Court yard.

  • "We enjoyed our recent stay at Barn Cottage and is in a good location in the Peak District."

The cottage is spacious but the kitchen is a little on the small side but for 2 is adequate. I missed there not being a hairdryer and the towels were a little on the small side. If you have a dog the field at the back is huge and there is a nice garden which gets the afternoon and evening sun but the adjacent cottage also uses this to access their cottage. All in all, despite the points mentioned we would return here again if we come back to the area.

  • "Lovely cottage and facilities were great."

Mattress on kingsize bed was a little unforgiving for us but might be perfect for someone else. Phone signal on EE was awful only working in the windows. Although to be fair phone signal on EE pretty poor across the whole of the Peaks! O2 though was really good. Only need phone to catch up with Asda delivery and daughter so was not really an issue just a frustration.

  • "We had a lovely stay at barn cottage with friends staying in the adjacent cottage."

Using it as a base for excellent walks in the area. Whilst the kids found the lack of Wi-Fi a big change from the norm. It was good to be together with no device distractions. The Barn cottage was spacious and comfortable and very clean and the enclosed gardens with both properties and the huge walled field at the back gave the dogs plenty of space to be in too (although they were pretty tired from all the walks during the day.) All in all we had a lovely stay and now have a known place to stay if we are in the area again.

The cottage itself is cosy but spacious, with lovely decor. The whole place is just lovely and we would definitely stay again. Only thing I would recommend is owners purchasing a cheap high chair, but we did get by putting baby in the pushchair, so no big issue here.

Situated in the countryside, very peaceful. The only negative comments: central heating difficult to operate, and one of the lounge windows is right next to the path used by other cottage dwellers. We did enjoy our stay, especially the weather.

About the location

PEAK FOREST

Tideswell 4 miles; Chapel-en-le-Frith 4 miles; Buxton 4 miles.

The ancient and peaceful village of Peak Forest is situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, boasting an excellent pub, which serves good food. The village is named for the Royal Forest of the Peak, which was an open area used as a royal hunting park rather than a forested area. Peak Forest has a church, which was founded in 1657 by the Countess of Devonshire and until the 18th century, its vicar had considerable freedom in conducting marriage ceremonies, hence Peak Forest became Derbyshire’s Gretna Green. Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of the Peak, is surrounded by superb walking country. Nearby are the pretty villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Castleton, with four spectacular caverns to visit, the ‘plague’ village of Eyam, and Tideswell, where the church is regarded as the cathedral of the Peak. Horse riding, cycling and swimming at the open-air pool in Hathersage and the wonderful Castleton Caves are all available within 7 miles. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House estate, Haddon Hall, or the house and glorious gardens at Lyme Park, all within easy reach.
