  • "A lovely snug little cottage in the beautiful village of Bradwell."

The kitchen is compact but perfectly adequate. The living room and bedroom are comfortable although the bed could probably do with a new mattress. It was a steep climb up from the village, especially after a visit to the pub, but it certainly wouldn’t put me off returning. There are lots of walks around the village and the surrounding area. A thoroughly enjoyable week.

I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Smithy Cottage. Thankyou for your feedback and I'm sorry you didn't find the mattress to your liking. I can assure you that previous guests have left feedback saying how comfortable the bed is. The mattress is a Simba with a 10 year guarantee. Property Owner

Bed was extremely comfy with good quality pillows, also must mention the lovely thick white fluffy towels! A quiet, peaceful location and the owner has plenty of local area information you can look through. Beautiful countryside and places of interest aplenty nearby. Parking was very useful and we enjoyed the outdoor seating on those hot evenings. Enough in Bradwell to keep you going, in a couple of small shops, pubs and a Fish and Chip shop. Great for couples as there aren’t many small places around, this made it very reasonable. We throughly enjoyed our stay in this property and intend to return.

Unusually, we had a whole week without rain so got lots of great circular walks in from the door! It's a great base for a couple to explore everything the Peak District has to offer. The property was spotlessly clean and it was nice to receive a welcome pack of bread, milk, butter, ice cream, etc on arrival. We especially liked the parking space outside the property (very unusual in the village) and the new remote control gas fire which was very cosy in the evenings! A fantastic pub is minutes away too! Overall we would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

The cottage is perfect for two people and Andrea has designed the space to get the maximum out of it and it’s finished to such a high standard. Don’t stress about taking lots of kitchen bits as everything you’ll need is there, plus the welcome pack was so thoughtful! It really is a home away from home. There is a good size co-op down the hill and a few pubs, chippy, bakery and amazing ice-cream shop all within a few minutes walk. The village is beautiful and having a driveway is worth it’s weight in gold. I can’t wait to book again for another fantastic walking holiday!

Plus thank you for the coffee and tea that was provided even though we didn't use them because we brought our own, again, because we didn't expect it. Things such as soap, toilet paper, kitchen towel, foil, clingfilm, ziplock bags , sharp knives(!), ice cubes, cleaning products, tea towels and pots/pans and all the kitchen equipment you would need for your stay were all provided. Just nit-picking - a non-stick frying pan would have been useful because in making scrambled egg, egg got stuck on the bottom of the pan and it was very hard to clean off!! Also to have a latch on the bathroom door would have been good for privacy! We enjoyed our stay in Bradwell. A lovely village as described in the listing, with enough amenities to prevent you having to travel to get provisions. The Peaks are beautiful and great for walks, cycling and even a spot of wild swimming and lovely villages all over.

It was clean, comfortable and welcoming, containing every possible thing we could need during our stay. Andrea, our host included some extra treats that we found in the kitchen and was on hand if we needed anything. We had easy access to the places we wanted to visit in the area. Smithy Hill is a very steep, narrow road and we found the best way to access the driveway to the cottage was by coming down from the top of the hill from Granby Road. • "We liked the cottage overall, and it was very handy to have the parking but."

..I would like to offer the following as constructive criticism. The kitchen was tiny with a sloping ceiling over the worktop - we were continually bumping our heads. There was only room for one person at a time in there. I think it would be fair to mention in the details that the kitchen is small. The owners had obviously been to a lot of trouble to add ornaments, but there were too many and every workspace, cupboard and drawer was filled with their items. We would have preferred empty cupboards to keep our food in. A sign on the stairs to warn of the low ceiling ON THE WAY UP would have prevented my partner finding it the hard way just after we arrived. Instructions for the shower tap would have been useful. Instructions for adjusting the heating would have been helpful. Not sure if the description mentioned that it is on a steep hill. Elderly people might find this a problem. We did like the cottage and found it very cosy so I am sorry to sound as though I am complaining about it.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad you liked the property. All instructions can be found in the information pack with regards to how to use the heating, Shower and coffee machine.. Property Owner

I honestly cannot fault this cottage at all. Myself and my husband were welcomed by a wonderful Christmas hamper and the living room was decorated with a Christmas tree. The cottage was absolutely immaculate in every room and added bonus of a parking space right in front too. The village of Bradwell is wonderful and we went to the annual rubber duck race on Boxing Day, great fun and although the local Co-op was having a refurb there were plenty of other grocery shops and deli's in the local area. • "The cottage is compact and well equipped and has everything a couple needs to have a relaxing break."

The cottage has no rear door, which we soon adapted to allowing us to take full advantage of the garden and it's views. The hosts welcome gift was a bonus and well received. The final up hill approach through the village was an adventure needing the drivers 100% attention. The reference to the double garage in the instructions were unhelpful as a van was parked blocking them from sight. It would be helpful to mention the school finishing time of 3:30 when their is an increase in parked vehicles. The village is in a beautiful setting with everyone we encountered having the time to be helpful and and share pleasant conversations. Exploring the village is well worth the time. Combined with some stunning views and walks.

Thank you for staying at Smithy Cottage, we're glad you enjoyed your holiday. We're sorry you were unable to spot the double garage. Unfortunately we cannot control if someone parks in front as it is used as a point of reference for directions. In regards to the school, we don't have control over the times they finish and they can vary so this is not something that we would advise guests of. Property Owner

Absolutely immaculate inside, we thought we were the first ones in there and as soon as we walked in the door we felt like we were at home. A lovely welcome pack from the owners too. We would highly recommend this cottage for a short break or even a fortnights holiday as being in Bradwell it is in a perfect location to explore the whole of the Peak District. I would recommend adding onto the description although it has its own parking space due to being in a small lane with surrounding houses it may be worth mentioning the size of the space as we were going to bring our transporter van but luckily brought the car instead as the van would never had fitted into the parking space due to turning in and out of the cottage. Also because of other cars parking in the lane we only could drive one way out but everything else was absolutely perfect.

Thank you for your comments regarding the property, we are sorry you feel this way towards the access to the property but this has never been an issue before, the drive way at the property is wide and accessible for front and reverse parking.
