It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th Centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual Festival of Music and Arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south. A great base for exploring the Peak District.

Previous visitors' comments about The Nest:
The Nest, although small, was cosy and in an ideal position for exploring The Dales. Our short break holiday was great and included a superb night at the Buxton Opera House. The owners were ideal hosts and we would definitely recommend the cottage.

The property nestles in a beautiful and peaceful valley with walks from the door. Comfortable, warm cottage and friendly owners. You don't have to use your car, my little dog loved her long walks and was fascinated by the herd of cows which are moved from field to field in the evenings. 'Cowdale' is very aptly named!
Ms Richards, Leicester, August 2011
The Nest in Cowdale near Buxton was perfect. This was in respect of the surroundings, the atmosphere, the owners and their continued willingness to help in any way that was possible. This holiday and studio was enchanting and I look forward to coming again and again.

Very friendly owners who made us welcome with tea and biscuits. Property was very cosy with everything we needed, couldn't fault it at all. Quiet location, lovely scenery, really enjoyed our short break - wish we could have stayed longer!
