Location: Hathersage

Castleton 5 miles; Curbar 5 miles.

The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!

Previous visitors' comments about The Roost:

The accommodation was perfect for our needs & ideally located in the centre of the village. At least 4 pubs & numerous restaurants, bars, tea-rooms all within 5-minutes stroll. The welcome was warm & laid back with nothing too much trouble for the owners.
Mr Piearcey, Leigh-on-Sea, August 2010

The property looked even better in person than the picture's suggested. Nice location to explore the Peaks.
Mr Newton, Lincoln, July 2010

The property was immaculate and well equipped and maintained. Owners very friendly. Deserves to be graded 4*. Good food at Scotsmans Pack and The Plough.
Mr Leslie, Reading, May 2010

Fantastic base for walking and sight seeing in the area. With station just up the road you don't even need to move you car. Excellent pubs nearby for great food as well. Perfect!
