  • "Ruth and David provided a warm welcome with a little welcome pack."

The cottage was ideal for us and our Weimaraner dog, who enjoyed the spacious field and the dog treats. The area offers fantastic walking opportunities, with quiet country lanes that are narrow but manageable. The cottage was impeccably clean and wonderfully peaceful. Despite the owners living on-site, they were not intrusive in any way.

So glad you and your lovely dog enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your kind comments, it always pleases us when our guests appreciate our wonderful Yorkshire countryside. Kind Regards from Ruth, David & the Cats & Dogs Property Owner

Thank you for your comments. Regarding the directions, you are correct about the postcode, unfortunately there are three lanes all on the same postcode. I always try to point this out to our guests and normally we have no problems. Sorry if this caused you a minor inconvenience Property Owner

On the compact side, with a bijou shower room and low beams upstairs. Wonderful walks from the doorstep and good bus and train services in easy reach. Expect steep and twisty lanes, and a super pub five minutes walk away.

Living on site they are available to sort any problems should they arise and to answer any questions. We chose the property because we wanted to explore an area of the UK we didn't know well and the owners provided us with great recommendations of places to visit The property was sweet, cosy and comfy. We had everything we needed for a lovely restful break and the little touches like: tea and coffee, coffee pods, eggs, croissants provided for our first breakfast were greatly appreciated. We will definitely recommend it to friends and family

  • "Better than expected really."

I wanted high up, remote but not isolated and this ticked all the boxes. Had not expected to find such a pretty location with such beautiful sunrises, misty mornings and night skies. There's a whole hidden world up by Cottonstones and Millbank. The pub is even nearer than you would expect. The Mistle had everything I needed and was spotless, cosy and well-equipped. We visited in October and the weather was sunny and mild all week. It's a great location from which to explore West Yorks and Calderdale in all seasons. Excellent hosts, will return. Thankyou! For us, it was absolutely perfect and excellent value for money.

Thanks Joanne for your comments. It always pleases us to know that our guests have enjoyed their stay. Look forward to seeing you in the future and please bring the weather with you again...... Best regards from Ruth, David and the animals. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely conversation into a very petit but comfortable holiday let."

It has everything you need, my only comment would be tall or larger people may find the stairs and the bathroom difficult to navigate. The cottage has lovely views from the front and any dog owners will find the field opposite wonderful to exercise dogs. Our lad loved it! The area has some great walks and lots of attractive villages and towns to visit. For evening meals there are 2 x pubs close by, The Alma is 5 minutes and The Beehive around 20 minutes walk. Would I return, No, but that's only because I like to go to different places. I have recommended to a friend and hopefully they will try it.

It was beautifully accessorised and everything we needed was provided. The bed is possibly the most comfortable we have experienced in decades of holidays. Upstairs is light, bright and airy, and downstairs comfortable and cosy in the eves whilst also providing a welcome cool alternative to the sunshine outside sitting out on the patio (yes, we did actually get some hot weather!!

A good welcome pack was left and the host met us and gave some tips on how to use things. Everything was very clean and nicely laid out other than the bathroom. We found the shower and sink to be too cramped and awkward to use although it all worked and good hot shower once you were in it., only useable if you are of a slim build. Annoying shelf over the sink as well. I know it’s difficult with space but this let it down a bit. Location is good for walking and a nice pub nearby.

Ruth and David were lovely hosts; attentive but by no means intrusive. If we wanted their help or advice they were right next door but otherwise we were left to our own devices. The little former cow shed was immaculately clean with fresh pastries, milk, jam, eggs, butter and flowers already placed for us to enjoy. The nearest pub is just 10 minutes walk at a slow pace away and the local village has a great selection of essential shops and takeaways. Would definitely recommend. It’s worth noting that you have neighbours attached on both sides and so if you want to go somewhere and make noise, this isn’t the place for you!

The Alma Inn nearby , with its superb food, provided ample opportunities for breakfast and meals during the day. This is a great location for visiting local attractions, including The Bronte Parsonage. About the location

RIPPONDEN

Sowerby Bridge 3 miles; Hebden Bridge 8 miles.

The Calderdale village of Ripponden is set in the rural Pennine landscape, three miles from Sowerby Bridge, in the Ryburn Valley. The village is made up of traditional stone-built cottages, and a small high street with shops, cafes, an award-winning restaurant, takeaways, several excellent pubs serving food and real ale, and a local supermarket, with the River Ryburn flowing gently through the centre. Located at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, pretty old weaving villages are found in the surrounding hills. The area is also of archaeological note for its Roman road, Neolithic and Bronze Age remains. Upon Rishworth Moor, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and home to many rare animals, can be found the Cat Stones, a series of ancient round barrow burial sites. Ripponden village is also noted for the annual Rushbearing Festival each Autumn, featuring dance troupes including Morris Dancers from all over the country. Nearby is Hebden Bridge, a diverse, bohemian town home to restaurants, bars, bistros, markets, an independent cinema, art galleries, and the Rochdale Canal. A scenic car ride over the moors takes you to the Parsonage Museum which commemorates the famous Bronte family. A short drive in the opposite direction takes you to the heart of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country. Numerous listed buildings and National Trust properties are close by. The Haworth area is also a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway.
