The house is beautiful and very well equipped. It has a great enclosed garden with gorgeous views. We stayed with our family, 5 adults and 2 well behaved dogs and there was ample room for us all. We did some walking in the local area and called in at the nearby pub too. Maxine kindly baked us some bread and cake with some added goodies for our arrival, which was a lovely surprise. Julian gave us a quick informative briefing about the house, kitchen appliances, heating etc..There is a shower for the dogs which was an added bonus as well as a very large pet crate if your dog is crate trained. We would love to return at some point in the future and would definitely recommend Woodview to our family and friends. Thank you Julian and Maxine The Lawlor Family.

We found it difficult to use the Rayburn cooker. It seemed like a lot of wasted energy. A good excuse though to use the pub up the road! Can't think of any thing to improve our stay but would have appreciated an optional blind on the Velux window in the main bedroom and a mirror downstairs, perhaps in the utility room? A good spot for walking and birdwatching and the dogs loved it! So useful to have the washing and drying facilities for them.

  • "Staying at Woodview Farm Cottage was absolutely amazing and a wonderful experience."

The cottage was spotlessly clean. It provided everything to make your stay home from home. We could not wish for anything better. It was a lovely touch to have a dog shower and dryer. After a long walk with our 2 dogs, we never had to worry about our dogs getting dirty. They had a lovely garden which was dog friendly and safe. We spent most our time in the conservatory as the views were incredible. There was a pair of binoculars which I used all the time. We saw a variety of birds in the garden including a woodpecker. If you want a peaceful relaxing location, this is for you. There was a lovely friendly pub in walking distance which served tasty meals. There were lots of supermarkets and places to eat a short drive from the cottage. Lots of places to visit, just a short drive away. The Peak District was a short drive and Wentworth Castle and Gardens was worth the visit. Julian the owner was a lovely and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Thank you for making our stay a memorable visit. I just wish we could of stayed longer.

  • "Lovely property, extremely clean, beautifully furnished and well equipped."

Lots of equipment in the kitchen so perfect for self catering. Beautiful views, lovely walks from the doorstep and the local pub the Golden Cock was fantastic and only a 5 minute walk up the hill. We walked down the hill behind the house and spotted bats, foxes, deer and a badger, plus a variety of birds in the garden. The owners were very friendly. A few points worth considering; The property is dog friendly in that there is a dog shower, bowls, towel etc. however the welcome book requests that dogs are not allowed to toilet in the garden. Which essentially means dogs are not allowed in the garden at all. The listing also states the garden is enclosed which whilst technically it is, the fence to one side is very open and even a medium size dog could easily get through. Dogs are not allowed upstairs (no problem with this) however the downstairs is open plan and there is no stair gate so tricky to keep the dogs from going up. The owners have several dogs of their own who live in the barn adjacent to the property. Absolutely lovely dogs but they do bark... a lot... day and night. Might be an issue if you have reactive dogs and/or young children who wake easily. Despite this, we did have a very enjoyable week, and would definitely consider returning to Woodview but probably not with the dogs.

Thank you for your response, firstly, I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the array of wildlife we have here and the property was clean, warm and comfortable for you and your family. We go to great lengths to ensure this. I think you may have misunderstood the requests in the welcome pack. Your dogs are more than welcome to be in the garden and enjoy the freedom of being loose. All we ask is that if they do toilet on the lawn that it be picked up and disposed so that we can keep it clean for the next guests and by no means do we forbid guests dogs being loose for the duration of their stay in the garden. We have had fitted 5ft ornate metal fencing to the North end of the garden so dogs cant escape and the fence to the East and South is well netted and we have never had a dog escape. As in keeping with a lot of holiday properties, dogs aren't allowed upstairs as sometimes dogs may try jumping on the beds which we have to discourage and I'm sure you will understand this. I take on board the fitting of a baby gate at the bottom may help desist those dogs wanting to venture upstairs and we are in the process of having a gate fitted after having taken your comments regarding this on board. We do have 4 x dogs of our own on the farm side of the property but its very very rare they bark at night unless a fox or deer come onto the farm as they occasionally do in the Springtime. I do recall your own dogs were quite "barky" themselves and at one point my dog returned the favour as of course dogs sometimes do. We continually strive to offer the very best facilities that this property and the surrounding countryside has and any comments help us to ensure all our guests have a relaxing time. The views from the sunroom were amazing and this was a lovely room to sit with a glass of wine in the evening and look down across the valley. It was a great area for walking directly from the property, we stayed for a week but only used the car once. The village pub was very dog friendly and served excellent food, very welcoming after a few hours walking with the dogs. Although it is appreciated that the cottage has only recently been let, there were a few items missing which would of enhanced our stay, mirrors in the bedrooms and coffee tables in the lounge (we were nervous to mark the lovely oak floor) We were also asked not to let the dogs toilet on the lawn, which had been recently seeded, but this wasn’t a problem for us, as we just walked them up the lane, when needed. We were really sorry to leave this beautiful cottage and the surrounding area and hope to revisit sometime in the future.

Where to start. Julian, the host, is great and is close at hand if you need anything. The property is immaculate and the decor is superb. A real effort has been put into the property to ensure you have everything you need at a high quality. We were blessed with fresh flowers and Easter decorations for our stay which was a lovely touch along with an unexpected welcome basket. In addition, the property worked really well with our rather big but super friendly dog. Not only is a dog crate provided (if you wanted to use one) as well as bowls (and some welcome doggy biscuits) but there is also a dedicated dog wash station. • "The property is finished to an extremely high standard, lots of mod-cons and impeccably clean."

The location was also fantastic - so much to do in that area. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. However, the main issue for use was that the listing said enclosed garden - a real draw for us as it was important for us to book somewhere where we could let our young son and dog run around and play freely - however we were disappointed that this was not the case. We weren't allowed to use the back garden as it hadn't been turfed fully and the fence around it had extremely wide gaps that wouldn't keep dogs or small children safe. The listing really shouldn't say 'enclosed rear garden' as this simply isn't the case. It even states that there is patio furniture which there isn't. We were told to use a nearby field that is a short walk away, which isn't very practical in inclement weather conditions/ with babies/toddlers. Hopefully the grass will be done soon and the fence improved so that this issue is resolved - this is a fairly new property so I think this might be a work in progress. A few other practical things that would enhance the property that I think you only really appreciate when you live there for a week - a dressing table and a full length mirror in one/ a few of the bedrooms would have been great, a stairgate would have made the property more pet/child friendly, and an airer would have been great to dry clothes/ towels on. Oh and a hairdryer!

Hi Emma thank you for choosing to stay with us and your review is welcome. The mirrors that have been on order for a while have now arrived at last, sorry that it was an inconvenience to you. There was a hairdryer in the chest of drawers ( top left hand drawer) in the main bedroom. We now have put another hair dryer in another bedroom. We have decided not to let dogs toilet on our lawns for 2 reasons firstly it’s not good when children play on the lawn after dogs have been to the toilet on there. Many parks don’t let you take dogs on areas where children play. Secondly dogs urine burns the grass then our lawns would look unsightly. Thank you for mentioning the stair gate we shall get one for future guests with young children. The fence is being sorted thank you for highlighting that issue. This is our first season so there will be minor hiccups and your review is important to us so that we can make future guests stay with us enjoyable. Maxine Property Owner

The house is finished to a very high standard and the owners were exceptionally friendly. Lovely welcome basket when we arrived which was a nice surprise. Julian assisted when my father in law's car wouldn't start when it was time to leave, thank you! The house is nicely tucked away and it is so quiet at night that you could hear a pin drop. The area is great for walking and the local pub served great food and the staff were really welcoming and friendly. We regularly go away walking and this was by far one of our best trips. The only thing I would suggest is to have a visitors information book in the house with wifi password and guidance on how to use the heating system etc. It was no problem as we were able to contact Julian for this information but didn't like to feel that we were bothering him. And mirrors hung in the bedrooms would be handy for drying hair and getting ready. We did take vanity mirrors with us so wasn't a huge issue but would be handy in general. Overall - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house to friends and family. We have already been looking at dates to go back!
