  • "Nice clean property, with excellent facilities including the wood burner."

It was perfect for our group which consisted of four retired couples. The location was ideal with several walks and attractions within easy reach either on foot or via car. The local pub, 50 yards away, was a huge bonus and the staff were great and the beer and food even better. John and Avril were incredible helpful and on hand, via text, to assist if needed.

  • "We stayed at this lovely cottage over Christmas."

It was beautifully decorated and felt very festive. The beds are all really comfy, plenty of room in the lounge and round the dining table. The woodburner was fab - got a bit too warm for some of us, but perfect for the older relatives! Lots of games and books to keep you entertained. The kitchen is really well equipped and the range stove is great to cook with. Our Christmas meal was a triumph. The local area is very picturesque. The local pub is great - even better, it's so close. John and Avril are very welcoming hosts, thank you for the treats you left us and thank you for a really lovely stay in your beautiful house.

  • "We had a small dog with us and it was not until we arrived at the cottage that we read a notice at the bottom of the stairs saying dogs not allowed upstairs."

This needs to be clearly notified on Sykes web site as some dogs sleep in the bedroom with their owners. On a very positive note the cottage is superb.

  • "This is a five star property."

Perfect location for Peak District hiking, lovely village with great facilities including lovely village pub. The house is wonderfully comfortable and extremely well equipped. Lovely cosy lounge, with two sofas and a log burner, especially and stunning top floor bathroom. The owners have clearly thought of everything and have acted on previous guests’ feedback. My only suggestion is that it should be made clear on the website that dogs are not allowed upstairs as I would not have booked had I known that - if you have a dog that sleeps in your room then a holiday is not the time to try to break that as it’s very stressful.

Thankyou for your kind comments, it's great that you enjoyed the house . We're very pleased that you benefitted from the recent refurbishment work. Sorry to hear of the situation with your dog and thankyou for respecting our request to keep dogs downstairs and in the garden area. This is what most of our guests expect. We trust your pet has settled now they've returned home. Property Owner

The village of Longnor where the house is situated is lovely with all the amenities close by, and there is lots of information about the area available at the house, it's a beautiful place to stay, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house to anyone. The owners of the house were very helpful when we had an emergency with our dog, John even asked us to let him know how our dog was after the vets call and medication.

Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Glad to hear that your dog recovered well. Property Owner

  • "A lovely property situated in the middle of Longnor."

The garden is on two levels, with steep stairs to the upper level. The comfortable seating is on the higher level, but was plagued with wasps making it impossible to relax. The parking is very hit and miss outside the house. We had to park several times in the little car park in the village square. Unfortunately not everyone is careful when parking and we returned to our car one morning to find the rear of our car had been scuffed.

Glad you liked the property on the whole. Sorry about the situation with the wasps. We haven't had this problem before and our investigations haven't shown any sign of a nest within the property boundaries. We will keep an eye on the situation though and thanks for letting us know. Parking in many Peak District villages is sometimes awkward at busy times and we're sorry to hear of your car being scuffed. We hope it wasn't too serious. Property Owner

Local shops had a great selection of food and treats, the local pub reopened during our stay offering homemade food. Property had everything we needed with a mix of modern and traditional feel. The sweet treats and fizz on arrival was a nice touch.

The owners John and Avril were very approachable and very speedy in reply to any text questions I had. The house is well placed being very close to the local shop and fish and chip shop, and literally right next door to the post office and a sweet shop! • "We have just come back from a week in Longnor."

The cottage is set on 3 floors with a large bathroom on the top floor, another bathroom on the middle floor and toilet on the ground level. There is a large dining kitchen with a very good large hob/oven and a washer and dryer in the utility. The road outside is very busy with traffic and parking outside the cottage is an issue as the majority of the time we couldn’t get a space. However you can park down the road but having a baby this proved very hard for us.. The outside garden is set on two levels with steep steps between the two levels. The Cheshire Cheese pub is now closed so the nearest one is the Packhorse about 0.8 mile away.

Thankyou for the feedback. You're no doubt aware that Millward House has been upgraded since you booked and you were able to benefit from the lower price for a 3✓ property whereas the house is now 4✓ due to the extensive ground floor improvements. The parking situation is not untypical for Peak District villages in springtime. As you say, parking is available in the nearby market square but we appreciate this is not ideal when you have a baby. Unfortunately the pub is beyond our control. We understand that it will be reopening. Property Owner

Thankyou, pleased you had a great stay over New Year. We will be upgrading the kitchen and installing a downstairs toilet over the winter period. Property Owner

  • "An enjoyable stay in a pretty area."

The village has a small shop but no pub, the last having closed in July 2022, so you will have to travel a mile or two. But there's a good fish-and-chip option within a hundred yards of the house, though it's not open every day. The house itself is on three floors, with a small and awkward L-shaped kitchen. It's more rustic than luxury, but the WiFi works well and the garden, on two levels, is pleasant. Bedrooms are a good size, beds are comfortable and there's plenty of hot water. There are some very lovely walks in the Manifold Valley area, and the property is dog-friendly. All-in-all a pleasant place to stay.

Millward House is on the road, but that is very quiet. It's a very pleasant spacious house but with steep stairs which some people might find difficult. The property has a lovely character and was roomy enough for a family of 6. The kitchen has a rather old fashioned layout but this is to be expected in a period property. It is a spacious and comfortable house. I was able to explore some of the surrounding paths for a 5 mile run and had a particularly pleasant run thanks to one of the nearby residents to Longnior pointing me onto a path through fields which I would have found hard to locate without his patience. As a result I found myself back into Longnor via the farm which is a part of this charming village. It was a memorable and enjoyable experience.

We appreciate that it's an old property but that's no excuse for poor cleanliness. The main "walkways / work areas" were clean but go beyond and it was dirty. Also a bad smell of damp downstairs with a number of damp stains to walls and ceilings. We used 2 tins of air freshener. Bulbs blown in every room. Hoover was full of pet hair and didn't pick up. Too many pots out, which were we to use as most were dirty/dusty. Upstairs taps need a service as they hardly turn on, also poor water pressure, maybe a pump required? Hardly get wet in the shower and gave up on filling the bath! Rubbish bin was full and bags thrown on the floor in the upper garden. This place needs a deep clean and some tlc, it could be so nice. On a positive, the beds were comfortable and clean and the property is well situated for exploring.

The outside spaces need tidying up and the shower on the top floor needs attention because it can't be adjusted as necessary. Our first impression of the kitchen was disappointing because there is some damage to the unit as you walk in, although this doesn't interfere with the practical use of the kitchen. During our stay we noticed that the gas bottles needed replacing so we phoned the owner, who was grateful that we had checked this, and the next day the gas bottles were replaced. The beds were very comfortable and the bath towels were lovely, but it would have been good to have had hand towels as well. We would add that for what we paid for our week, this house is very good value.
