The charming and traditional conservation village of Bonsall is situated at the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, 4 miles from Matlock. Named in the Domesday Book, with a history dating back to Roman times, this former lead mining and textile producing village is renowned for the World Hen Racing Championship's held on the first Saturday in August at the Barley Mow pub. An active village, with the Open Gardens in June, a Carnival in July and a horticultural show in September, Bonsall always has something going on. The Limestone Way passes through the village and the High Peak and Tissington trails are close by for walking and cycling.
