  • "Lovely big house that was perfect for a family getaway."

12 of us stayed here and it was very comfortable for a family of all different age groups. The house is so well maintained and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. Location perfect for visiting Bakewell and lovely villages. Car parking can be tricky, we had 4 cars and although it states 5 cars could park there, this would have been difficult. The front courtyard parking is shared with the house next door. There is also a garage that can accommodate a medium size car and a space next to the garage. There is a diagram inside the property showing how best to park. Good communication from owners, would definitely return.

  • "It was an absolutely great house."

We were three families (six adults and five children) and the sleeping accommodation was excellent. Plenty toilets throughout the house. The living room and kitchen could comfortably fit us all. The children loved the cubby holes in the top floor eaves (which are clean and carpeted) they made great little dens. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking full family meals. Great bus links into the local towns where there were lots of lovely things to do. The only (and tiny!) suggestion for improvement would be some blankets in the living room - not because it was cold, purely for snuggling up in the evening. An absolutely fantastic house - would very happily book it again.

We had a great time and it was particularly nice that the property was decorated for Christmas. Excellent facilities apart from the fact that the oven wouldn't close properly. Would recommend, especially if you're visiting Chatsworth.

The house pictures on Sykes do not do the accommodation justice. We were totally blown away by the standard of furniture and fittings. The house truly accommodated the nine of us without feeling cramped and kitchen accessories also catered for large groups and again great quality. We will be definitely booking again in the near future. Excellent location for getting around the local attractions. We would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank the host Andy for his attention and professionalism from start to finish.

Parking can be a bit tricky though if you have multiple guest groups driving in. Would be helpful to share your parking diagram in advance for future guests if possible as I can understand that you might not want to paint lines on your courtyard!

  • "We came in 2019 and stayed in Torrestyn, the property next door."

However The Lilies (at the time, was the cover house) had much more modern furniture in the living room. At the time of booking, we had the choice of BOTH properties and we actually paid £50 more to stay at the more modern furnished property, which was the Lilies. However, on arrival, we noticed that both door signs has been switched and we were back in Torestyn (which is now The Lilies) So we felt a little "short changed" having booked and paid more for the other property to find we were staying in the SAME property as last time. Here are a few things that we noticed: The sofas were a bit tired, and smelt of animals so we spent very little time in the living room. Overall, we had a good time and very accessible to all attractions of the Peak District. The freezer hadn't been defrosted. So we had to chip off the ice to open up the top shelf. The coffee maker was broken (but the owner did replace it the next day) The shower in the en-suite was not hot enough and the sink to the right was draining VERY slow. Parking wasn't ideal as between the two houses, we had 6 cars. The pots and pans were a bit dated and I noticed the Wok and the T Towels I left behind 4 years ago were still in use. PHOTOS on SYKES definitely need to be updated as they are very misleading as both living rooms are completely different. The House "Torestyn" which is the one on the right. is definitely the more modern one!

The bedrooms were great for the whole family. There was plenty of seating in the lounge and the kitchen was fully equipped with the bonus of two fridges. We all thought though that the only points we could see for improvement would be bigger towels in the bathrooms and more modern bed linen. And the parking was a bit tricky with the adjoining house having three cars making six in all.

Beautiful, well equipped house in a fantastic location. We loved spending Christmas here with our family and were delighted with the Christmas decorations and welcome pack. The family bathroom on the middle floor is in need of a deep clean as are all of the bathroom fans. We felt that bins in the bathrooms and toilet would've been helpful. • "Overall, our stay at The Lillies was great!"

Communication with the owners was easy, beds are surprisingly comfortable, location is perfect and the price incredibly reasonable. There were only a handful of small things that I would say could improve the place: the bathroom door at the top could do with oiling (it’s a bit loud), the oven gloves need replacing, there’s a drainage issue with the bath on the 1st floor that needs sorting and more then 2 showers between over 10 people would be handy. (There are baths but showers are obviously quicker and more convenient when sharing with lots of people.) The parking is also a little tricky as you’re sharing with next door, but the owners do provide a thorough guide on how to park to allow the most spaces. That being said, we would all happily stay here again! The Lillies is a really lovely property in a fabulous location with pretty much everything you could need for your stay. Would highly recommend!

I gave some feedback to the person who takes care of it, a lot of the mugs had pretty big chips around the rim, some plates too when we arrived, they should have really been thrown away - he suggested people do not advise them, so we left them on the kitchen table. The TV broke when we were there on the Monday and on Tuesday they provided a new one which was fantastic of them to get it over so quickly. We know the area, Bakewell and Matlock, I would say the worst thing about the property was how busy the road out front of the house was, it was often difficult to get out and not good for walking as the local footpath was overgrown and left only width for one and we had small children in our party, obviously that is not the owners fault. It was a nice house and well equipped with appliances and even though there appeared to be no heating on, it was warm enough, there was a gas fire and CH if needed.

  • "Enjoyed being together with the family, after 18 months of isolation and uncertainty, so in that regard, we were happy to just be away anywhere together."

The property is spacious and comfortable, but needs a little more TLC. There certainly did not seem to have been any” Deep clean” carried out prior to our arrival, but other than that, we all enjoyed ourselves. We had to notify the property owner that the tumble dryer was not working, and he was grateful for being made aware of this, prior to the arrivals due on the 14/08/21. The property is ideally situated for all the Peak District attractions and locations, and I would not discourage anyone from staying at this property.

1 was in the garage( not enough space to park one round the back outside the garage unless it’s a very small thin car as the road is used regularly by tractors and the car would block access, also the parking at front we managed to agree a parking plan with the neighbors as the plan left does not work for either house. The fridges were more than enough space for all our food. The living room was stocked with fun games and good reads. The owners managed to cram a lot of beds into a small space but they positioned them well, leaving plenty of space for walking. It was walking distance to lots of shops and a public footpath which was very useful. We enjoyed our time at the Lillies - a well equipped comfortable holiday let and a joy to stay at. We know local folks and they said it would be top notch! - it was!. I've read a few reviews on the parking - can I just add if you look at the owners welcome book you can learn the parking drill so that both occupied holiday homes can actually park with simplicity. Your view from the back of the house is a pleasant hillside but the front view is an ugly factory which does have its own Noise/traffic issue too! The driveway for the Lillies is shared and overly awkward we drive a VW people carrier. From the road it has a sharp turn and low walls, be prepared to have to coordinate parking with your neighbours for the unrealistic 5-6 cars parking at front of house. The house for us was priced realistically, discounted as booked only 3 weeks before travelling so “you get what you pay for” if you don’t mind car noise then a comfortable holiday house. Darley Dale and the surrounding area is well worth a visit.

There was enough room for the 9 of us. The cleanliness of the house could be more thorough as there was water/soap mildew on the tiles and around the bath etc. The fridge and oven also needed a bit more attention to detail. There was a hole in the ceiling near the down stairs toilet. The down stair toilet smelt quite damp/drainage smell. Quite a few windows had "blown " with 1 having about a cm pool. Some of the lights bulbs need a change. Only 1 side of toaster working. Was handy having a washing machine and tumble dryer, large freezer. Towels and linen provided. Did not mind having to strip the beds but almost wish we had not as the stains to all the beds, protectors, duvets and pillows would have put us off from sleeping in them. The house has would be even better to staying the attention to detail was there with the cleanliness. The drive is a shared drive which fits 3 cars on the front and 1 to the back of the property. Garden nice with patio area. Some blinds also very bent so could do with replacing. The rooms are spacious. Not everyone could watch th tv due to the position of this at one end of the living room. Also tv small.

However I would add a few small pointers. In the information the dishwasher is listed as being a facility however no dishwasher tablets were available. Being people that don’t have a dishwasher at home, we wouldn’t be buying a whole packet just for a few days. Would have been useful to have a few left for our stay. This being the case we had to wash up our dishes when a dishwasher would have saved time for our break. Some of the rooms were slightly dusty and some lamps/bulbs needed replacing. I feel when you are spending a lot of money for a three day stay this should not have been the case. Stripping the beds? These are minor issues but the place was lovely. We had a good stay.

The lovely long dining table ment meals and breakfast were a lovely time to get together and enjoy each others company. The weather wasn't that kind to us, however the cottage with its underfloor heating was nice and cosy to come home to. Lots of space for the 10 of us and we didn't feel on top of each other

However ... 1) It worked fine for 10 adults, but 12 would be a real squash: there is only seating for 10 in the lounge and a possible but awkward extension to the dining table is required. 2) One of the bedrooms had a lamp with no obviously way to plug it into the mains. 3) The kitchen equipment was significantly lacking: only 6 reasonable sized drinking glasses; no un-slotted serving spoons; no table spoons; no water jug or reasonably-sized jug of any sort. 4) The bedroom floors are noisy, so that people sleeping on the first floor are easily disturbed by those walking around on the second floor. So overall we would consider rebooking, but it certainly wouldn't be an automatic choice for us.
