Matlock 2.5 miles. Situated next to the owners’ home on the edge of the village of Darley Dale near Matlock, is this 19th century former coach house, which was built in the style of the Arts & Crafts Movement and has now been converted into two beautiful adjoining self-contained cottages. The finish is reflected in the buildings’ history with tasteful furniture and fabrics. The bedrooms are comfortable and light and airy, the kitchens are modern and well-equipped and the sitting rooms are very grand indeed with a tasteful mix of period and contemporary furniture. Both sitting rooms feature French windows which open out onto the beautiful shared walled garden offering a delightful sheltered place to sit and enjoy a glass of something or perhaps a barbecue with your neighbours! There’s plenty to do right from your doorstep. Take the footpath which runs right by the cottages and after a few minutes’ you will have a close-up trackside view of the restored steam trains of Peak Rail thundering by. If you want to travel even further back in transport history you can take a ride in a horse drawn carriage at the Working Carriage Museum which is just a couple of minutes’ stroll down the lane. Completing the transport theme are fantastic bike trails close by, such as the Monsal Trail or jump in a car and open up an exhaustive range of possibilities in the Peak District National Park or the lovely towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath. There’s simply loads to do however and whenever you travel.

The popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, has been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, the Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham – a great place for all the family with its showcaves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst a short drive away is the National Tramway Museum at Crich. To the north are the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House and Park - not to be missed!
