  • "Although there were several positives about the house we were rather dissapointed after reading S ykes's description."

The beds were extremely comfortable, all the kitchen equipment worked well and was clean and the shower, although small, was powerful with plenty of hot water. Tv and wifi were fine and the lounge furniture was adequate. However, there was only a clothes rack for storage in the double bedroom and the space was cramped. Although the rear glass extension was a useful storage and drying space Sykes's description of it as somewhere to sit and relax was exaggerated. Unless you wish to sit on folding wooden chairs alongside the freezer, maiden, mop bucket and brushes! We were grateful for the good supply of tea, coffee, biscuits and cleaning materials on arrival but had to hoover the gritty floors and abundance of cobwebs throughout the house. On a positive note the house is well placed for the pavillion gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants and the welcome from the local people of Buxton was second to none!

I am pleased to hear that you found the beds very comfortable and all the kitchen equipment worked well and was clean. The shower is standard size and works well. There are clothes rails rather than wardrobes due to space and past guests have not usually found this to be an issue as holiday accommodation. The rear extension is useful for use having the freezer in addition to the fridge in the kitchen and useful for drying. and utility equipment. Some guests have found it helpful for children to sit in for doing homework or a quiet area for use of a computer. I was surprised to hear that you found cobwebs and some grit on the floor as the property was cleaned prior to your stay but will take your comments on board and check carefully. It would have been helpful if you had raised this issue during your stay when it could have been rectified rather than after your departure Thank you for your appreciation of the welcome pack and very positive comments about the location and the local people of Buxton. • "Excellent home from home, Would suggest adding Scissors to the kitchen utensils."

We struggled in some instances without them ei.. opening sauces ect,, Also when central heating is on if your in-bed, (double bedroom) a loud clicking sound every 10 minutes.. enough to disturb you trying to sleep.

Thank you for your excellent feedback and your comment it felt like home from home. However with regard to the central heating clicking , this only occurs when there is a change in temperature and we have no issues with is in the past. A new boiler was installed in the last few years and it is regularly serviced and was very recently checked and serviced and a safety certificate provided. When I spoke to you prior to your stay you informed me that you like to sleep with the window open all night which may have contributed to it having to work harder. I was not aware that there are no scissors as there used to be , thank you for letting me know Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage, well equipped and very comfortable with an attractive robin theme."

The location is very good, being close to the town and main attractions. However the bathroom is very small and it felt difficult with it being downstairs as the stairs are quite steep and hard on the feet.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. It is very well located for Buxton's attractions and public transport. The bathroom as you say is small but does have a full size shower. Some people like it being downstairs it is a matter of taste. The stairs are quite steep but part of the standard structure built with the cottage and the steps are edged with anti slip safety nosing and there are three hand rails for safety. Hope you visit again sometime. Property Owner

  • "Lovely well appointed cottage, very clean and cosy, in a quiet street with easy parking out the front."

The only feedback I have is that the two single beds were not very comfortable. They were quite hard, and they had this strange plastic sheet as a bottom layer which made the bed hot to sleep on, and made a crinkly noise with every movement. Also the bottom sheet was very low quality and not the right size - it kept coming off the bed in the night so you would end up lying on the plastic sheet. I would suggest upgrading to a regular fabric mattress protector and a deeper base sheet that tucks properly under the mattress so it doesn’t keep slipping off the bed.

Thank you for your feedback I am very pleased that you liked the cottage and have given very positive feedback However I am concerned about your comments about the single beds. We have expensive mattresses which have a mattress cover, mattress topper, regular mattress protector then base sheet, duvet and cover. Pillows pillow protectors and pillow cases. If you had contacted us about these issues you have had whilst during your stay we would have checked this out and responded appropriately. We have not had any complaints previously about the beds being hard. We are checking with our cleaning company to ensure the beds are made as specified. Property Owner

  • "Robin’s Roost is a very comfortable and cosy place in an excellent location to walk into town."

There were lots of lovely thoughtful touches such as Easter eggs, decorations and milk in the fridge. Parking at the property was easy despite it being a bank holiday weekend. We were able to park outside or in the car park which is visible from the front door. If we come back to Buxton we’d gladly stay again!

Thank you very much for your excellent feedback. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay and would welcome you to stay again at any time! Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a great position near to Buxton market place, but is not a great holiday let."

The on-street parking is non-existent, all spaces taken by locals. The stairs are very steep, and edged with metal. The cooker is incomprehensible to operate, and switches itself off at random. The TV is the smallest I have ever seen, and is connected to a 'rabbit-ears' indoor aerial, with which one has to constantly fiddle to get a signal. Trying to watch the news in a morning for the weather forecast is frustrating

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding parking at the property, there is a long stay car park next to the property the cost is a £3.90 for the whole day. There is free parking on street parking available outside the cottage on Clough Street and also on surrounding roads. The description does clearly state that the stairs are steep and they are edged with anti-slip safety nosing, for customers safety. There are also three hand rails on the walls of the stair case. This is visible on our photographs. The cooker is fully functional, and there are full instructions on how to use the cooker within the property. There have been no previous issues with this. The TV has since been fully upgraded to a larger TV set with the addition of a new outdoor aerial. There is now a choice of over 200 channels available. We would have hoped that you would have contacted us over any of the above issues so that we could have sorted these out for your during stay. Enjoy your holiday whist staying at RR, as you can see from previous reviews the majority of guests enjoyed their stay and given great reviews of Robin’s Roost. Property Owner

  • "We were really impressed with the location!"

Some lovely tourist spots only a stones throw away! The house was quaint - a lovely little, cottage style home with plenty of room for my husband and I and our little boy. The lady who rented it to us was lovely and only a phone call away if we needed anything, she was very helpful when we had a very minor issue one day with a fuse going out, it was easily fixable. The people on this website were also very helpful. The only thing I would comment is that, although we managed through the week, you would probably be pushed to the limit with more the 2 adults and 2 small children. Had we had another baby/ child in the mix, it would have proved difficult with the space provided. This is just from our perspective though and again, location and safety is the main thing and we felt very comfortable here for the week we stayed - we almost didn't want to leave! x

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
