  • "Rose cottage is lovely."

It has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Kathy & Vinny go the extra mile, they provided milk, Bakewell tarts and fresh flowers. The cottage has everything you need, it is really cosy. It's about 15 mins walk to the train station, shops, Cafe Bombay which is a lovely curry house and the two pubs The Papermill which has guest ales and the Old Hall Inn which has the most amazing food you will ever taste! We visited Bakewell, Buxton & Castleton, and my husband went walking most days. It is a perfect location to get out and about. We will definitely return

Pleasant cottage in beautiful surroundings. Very convenient for exploring the area and visiting the grandchildren. I would suggest the info pack could be improved with more house details such as where the washing macine is and where the key to access it is; also the WiFi details could be included. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Very helpful host. Very warm and cosy. Comfy bed, generous towels, great shower too! And lovely and clean with good equipment. Nothing overlooked. Small but pretty outside space with views over the hills behind. Everything worked well with nearly everything you'd need - we did miss being able to make fresh coffee! Would definitely stay again. For the area, we love the long walks from here, but particularly enjoyed the short ones: along the canal basin towards Whaley, or up through the nature reserve not far from the cottage. And Chinley is fab - it has a general shop, tea shops, chippy, butchers, good pub with food. Would recommend the Green lane social for food and great pies from the Post Office!! And you can get everywhere by train 5 minutes away - particularly recommend Hathersage for Pool café and David Mellor shop and café.

  • "Fabulous holiday in a beautiful area."

Rose Cottage is exceptionally comfortable and clean, we loved it. Lots of walking and some good places to eat nearby, although some are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Chapel-en-le Frith is only 2 to 3 miles away, there is a bus stop outside the cottage and the bus goes there and on to Buxton every couple of hours. We would recommend the Old Hall for meals, a 10 minute walk away, and The Beehive in Combs, a few miles away. The fish and chip shop in Chinley is good but only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the fruit and veg that the butcher sells looked delicious. All in all a great holiday with no complaints.

Near to some lovely cycling such as the road across from the cottage leads down to a cycle trail which in turn leads on to the canal and you can cycle for miles there. Chinley has some little places to eat such as the Green Lane Social which was very nice, it has a tea room but we didnt see it open which was a shame, it has a butchers and chippy and there are 2 other pubs/restaurants the Papermill and Old Hall which were really nice and just a short walk from the cottage. There is bike storage which is lockable, its a bit tight but we managed to fit our two adult ebikes in there which was brilliant. Owner very helpful and supportive with a couple of queries.

..watching the Covid-19 pandemic unfold in front of our eyes. But it was the week before total lock-down so we were able to get out into the Peaks and revisit old haunts and re-aquatint ourselves with the area again. It was close enough to civilisation to get supplies and grab enough food for the week as the shelves were being stripped bare in the supermarkets. Great location once we had found our way around. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped with excellent wi-fi which was a must under the crazy conditions. The log fire was the perfect accompaniment for a bottle of red If there was one bugbear it was the mattress on the bed, a tad to hard for my lady who struggled with her sleep .....but I guess we are all different so some would find it ok. We will be back to visit Rose Cottage again to finish exploring the area and check out the local pubs without fear of the dreaded C19.

Had a lovely log fire on the Saturday which we all enjoyed, plenty of wood and kindle supplied that was good. Cutlery was for 4 people only (no spares) so when family came for dinner on the Saturday they had to bring extra, so please add more cutlery even for 4 people, don't want to keep washing up. Other than that lovely cottage

Owner response; Thanks for your feedback, I'm thrilled that you had a great stay and could catch up with family. Cutlery and crockery for the advertised capacity of 4 people is checked and replenished as needed, but I’m happy to consider providing extra for guest convenience if required. I pride myself on high standards of cleanliness and comfort, so I'm always happy to consider suggestions to make a stay more enjoyable-I’m so pleased that you found the log fire enjoyable.
