Location: Ashford-in-the-water

Bakewell 2 miles.

The picture-postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water nestles on the banks of the River Wye, just two miles from Bakewell, at the heart of the Peak District National Park. This historic village, once famous for its marble, consists of 18th Century, stone cottages, 2 lovely pubs, an exquisite restaurant and a superb village store, renowned for its quality produce. The medieval Sheepwash Bridge, overhung by whispering willow trees, was once a major crossing point over the Wye for packhorses delivering malt from Derby and is flanked by a former sheep washing pen. Ashford Cricket Ground is a perfect spot to spend an afternoon supporting the local team, whilst Ashford 'Orchard' provides an ideal children's play area. The nearby, renowned market town of Bakewell offers a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs, together with frequent local farmers' markets. Visit the many stately homes, including Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall, or explore the rugged Dark Peak and softer limestone White Peak, all within easy reach. With Britain's premier theme park, Alton Towers and the impressive caverns at Castleton close by, you'll be spoilt for choice at this fantastic location.

This property is of a very good standard, tastefully decorated, has good quality furnishings and is well equipped.
Mrs Rodgers, Guildford, February 2012

The location was such a good base. We love Bakewell and it was within walking distance across the fields. We loved the fact there was a pub in the village serving food. All in all a lovely well equipped cottage.
Mr Engledow, North Walsham, February 2012

Owners had not only provided cot, highchair and stair gate as requested, but there were also toys and books for our little one which kept her entertained for hours.
Mrs Renison, Bristol, November 2011

What a kitchen! Very warm, cosy cottage and furnished to very high standard.
