The accommodation is second to none and the location is stunning. We stayed for a long weekend with friends and can't wait to go back.

  • "This rental is really original."

It is perfect for a stay with a large family. The seaside walks are superb. The charming little towns of Dunbar and especially North Berwick are very close. It is very easy to catch the train to Edinburgh from Dunbar station (10 minutes drive from the lighthouse). It should be noted for the sake of completeness that there are several industries that can be seen from the lighthouse and are relatively close (nuclear power plant and cement plant). But that absolutely did not spoil our unforgettable stay!!

  • "We had a lovely family break at Barnes Ness."

Extended family joined us for a few nights. The kids and dogs loved the proximity to the beach. In fact I think our dogs had a better holiday than we had. The house was comfortable and spacious and all needs catered for. There was enough to do in the surrounding areas to keep everyone entertained but we mostly enjoyed the beach and long walks. I would definitely love to go back.

Hier kann man entspannte Tage verbringen und hat eine perfekte Lage für Ausflüge mit dem Auto. Das naheliegende Atomkraftwerk und die Zementfabrik muss man ignorieren, ansonsten wäre es zu perfekt.

  • "The main issue was being told at 3pm on the day of our stay that the oven had been broken by tie previous occupants."

It was not fixed during our stay, and the only help offered was that we could look for accommodation elsewhere. For a large group, we had prepared food to be cooked in the oven for ease. It caused us much more work and hassle. We haven’t had an offer of any kind of refund or (at the time) assistance in buying something else to cook, especially as we weee catering for different requirements. The property could have been cleaner. It’s a lovely cottage but much was tired or broken. The main bathroom lock was broken, again a hassle for a big group. The property needs TLC (a loose loilet seat, broken loo roll holder, loose cooker knob, stained seats, saggy mattresses). Given the fee paid, we might have expected better. The location of the cottage is wonderful and we enjoyed being there. If the cottage was either less expensive or better cared for, it would feel like better value for money.

  • "This is an amazing property and my family and I had a wonderful time there."

I have to say I was put off by the list of rules and regulations that were emailed to me with monotonous regularity. I realise that rules are necessary but I’ve never had them sent to me in such a dictatorial fashion. The cottage was better than it looked on the web page and all the rooms were very clean and well appointed. However the outside toilet became an essential with 3 children could have been cleaner.

Good attention to detail and great wee outside space regardless of whichever way the wind is blowing! The kitchen is well equipped and great to have 2 fridges and more cooking space for the whole family. Highly recommended and we will be booking again.

  • "Lovely location and facilities as stated."

Well presented and prepared. Good resources and appliances. Perhaps could have shown how close it was to both cement works and Hunterston nuclear power station. That said a lovely coastal walk to Dunbar.

  • "Well equipped cottage in a lovely location."

One or two minor issues: Wobbly leg on dining table and a few of the outside lights were not working. The oven timer also defeated us as it kept trying to switch it off. The internet bandwidth was really limited, likely due to the remoteness of the house, it's probably fair to mention this though. We had a couple of students trying to keep up with University lectures remotely as well as the usual surfing demands.

Only issue was the broken tiles in the conservatory and metal grill over the vent in the floor, always a wee bit concerned about the wee ones or dogs cutting their feet. But not enough to stop me booking again All in all had a great time!

  • "It’s a unique and magical property and we had a really good few days."

The house is well-equipped with crockery, cutlery, glasses etc and well set-up for a large party. We did have a few things to pass back to the owner: She was hugely helpful answering queries by text which was very much appreciated. The front doors are difficult to secure and more advice about that in the information booklet would be good. There was only one bath plug. We shared it between the 2 bathrooms so that was OK but not ideal.

  • "One more double bed required."

Also we had an elderly person in the group that struggled with the shower in the bath. So with a handle to help get in the bath or convert one bathroom to include walk in shower. This cottage could be adapted for wheel chair access.

We loved the space to celebrate family events we had missed over the past two years. Kitchen was well kitted out and easy for self catering. Rooms were spacious, even with a travel cot. One bit of feedback would be to get black out blinds as it was quite bright to sleep for light sleepers.

Great for families and dogs. So many points of interest for outdoors people. And whilst a car is needed to get into town it wasn't a bind. The property is fantastic with plenty room and even though there was 12 of us, the 2 conservatories and living room meant it didn't feel you were living on top of each other.

The building is old so has some quirks. Everything you need is provided for. Gardens kept tidy although drives off the gates could do with a spruce up. Located on John Muir coastal path link.

Plenty of space with the extra conservatories. Clean and comfortable. Could possibly do with additional storage in bedrooms and some of the single mattresses could be replaced but other than that cottage had anything you would need and the welcome basket a nice touch.
