The property

157 Watling Street South is a charming house situated on the edge of the small town of Church Stretton, nestled in the Shropshire hills.

It is accessed directly off the A49 trunk route through the county, so it is very accessible and easy to find.

If you were arriving by train, the Railway Station is 0.4 miles walk, less than 10 minutes.

The host would be happy to collect you and your luggage from the railway station and convey you to the property on arrival if required.

The proximity of the railway station to the property means that you would be able to stay at 157 Watling Street South and use the train to visit the nearby towns and attractions of Shrewsbury and Ludlow, you would not be at a disadvantage without having your own vehicle.

This stunningly beautiful home offers convenient roadside parking (preferably for one vehicle) and is a delightful base for exploring the picturesque surroundings and vibrant local attractions.

Upon entering the property, you will be greeted by a cosy sitting room with deep, comfortable sofas and a large television, the room is complete with a woodburning stove providing a lovely space to unwind.

The adjoining dining room and small kitchen are of ample size for preparing home-cooked meals that can be enjoyed around the dining table in the peaceful, quiet ambience, with a lovely view of the back garden.

There is an old-fashioned cool pantry beneath the stairs for you to store your groceries, and a tall wooden dresser for plates and crockery.

For added convenience, a very small external utility room houses a washing machine and the central heating boiler.

There is a handy external downstairs cloakroom with a handbasin and WC for added convenience on the ground floor.

Although unconventionally laid out, to be in-keeping with the character of the property, the house has all the storage space and amenities you will require, although there is no dishwasher.

On the first floor of the property, you will find a tastefully decorated double bedroom with a spectacular view of the Long Mynd.

Also on the first floor is a big family bathroom with bespoke features including a wrought iron original big bathtub with handheld shower, and a separate impressively sized walk-in rainfall shower, heated towel rail, and WC.

Climb up the shiny wooden stairs to the second floor to discover a further double bedroom, again with glorious views of the Long Mynd, and next door a single bedroom enjoying a lovely view of the garden.

The property offers flexible sleeping arrangements for your group, two doubles and one single and we could even squeeze in an extra cot for babies or small children on request.

Outside, the property boasts an enclosed, multi-level garden with a patio, complete with furniture for alfresco dining, or for simply enjoying the fresh air with a glass of your favourite drink while you unwind.

This is a magical, pretty garden, lovingly cultivated for relaxation and meditation in nature, a small oasis with bees and butterflies and birds of all descriptions.

It has an unusual cobbly winding path, enabling you to find the perfect spot to take shade from the heat of the sun or unwind after a day out exploring the attractions of Shropshire.

The garden is very steep, it is the literal side of the Ragleath Hill, it not a playing ball games kind of space.

Small children would require supervision.

The Stipperstones is another beautiful landscape feature, and The Bridges pub and restaurant is worthy of a ride out to discover, up and over the hills.

Church Stretton and the surrounding area has a variety of highly regarded places to eat, Favourites include Sawadee Thai Restaurant in the Market Square Church Stretton, The Horsehoes pub, in Dorrington which does lovely meals, The Ragleath pub in Little Stretton, and the Indian Jaipur Lounge in Church Stretton, to name but a few, so you may want to save yourself the washing up and indulge in eating out.

There are even live music events regularly in Housmans pub restaurant also in the Market Square Church Stretton, where you could safely walk home in 16 minutes.

For days out exploring Shropshire you could not be more ideally located than 157 Watling Street South.

You could take the A49 left from the property (towards Hereford) to experience a day of historical exploration at Acton Scott Heritage Farm, where you can discover the traditional 19th-century farming life of Shropshire.

Venture a little further, to reach Ludlow Castle, an impressive medieval ruin offering a glimpse into the town's historic past, don't forget to stop by the Ludlow Farm Shop, which will tempt you with fresh local produce and unique culinary treats.

Or for a relaxing afternoon, in the opposite direction (take the A49 right from the property towards Shrewsbury) wander the beautifully cultivated gardens of The Quarry and The Dingle in the heart of Shrewsbury, before heading off for to explore the historic Shrewsbury Castle.

Shrewsbury Castle was originally an Anglo-Saxon timber fortification, guarding the only dry-shod approach to the town.

The Norman castle, built of red sandstone, was founded by Roger de Montgomery in 1070.

Another personal favourite is Much Wenlock, a lovely historic market town a short drive from the property, across Wenlock Edge; there you will find a special little café that serves the most delicious indulgent hot chocolate, made to order from cream and whole dark chocolate buttons or various intensities, sourced from around the world, for you to choose.
