  • "A good clean in the shower would be useful."

We are surprised that our cottage was marked so low on cleanliness. This must have been your rating upon leaving . We have never previously had guests stay for a month. Highbury is thoroughly cleaned after each stay. Should you have required a weekly clean you only needed to ask You were supplied with fresh bedding and towels every week and yet you failed to mention your complaint. The property is well equipped and very cozy with the raeburn heating on. En-suite shower is a bit 'snug', but shower itself is great. Traffic from the road didn't bother us but if it was summer with windows open it would have. Perfectly placed for lots of day trips out.

.however that doesn’t detract from how well presented and clean it was with everything and more needed for our stay. Also taps ..can’t get a good hold on them and they are a bit wobbly. Like I say only niggles!! Overall we thought it was a great place, perfect location for visiting places most only being half hour away, you’ve made it a proper home from home and we hope to return sometime in the future. Thank you for the fantastic welcome pack btw it was amazing above and beyond what we’ve had elsewhere.

Thankyou for your feedback . Since your visit we have lit the Rayburn and the kitchen is much warmer. The taps will be dealt with promptly. Glad you had a pleasant stay and lovely to have met you both . Property Owner

  • "Very damp: large patches of mould on the living room walls, lots of black mould in bathrooms when we arrived, plenty of slugs and beetles in the property."

Practically, this is an issue for laundry: there's no tumble-drier, and clothes took >48hrs to dry on the airer. The only radiator you can position the airer in front of is in the hallway. Damp shoes also take a long time to dry. Bedrooms are 3-4 metres from the road, which is 60mph speed limit. Traffic is intermittent but loud, into the night. You will need to drive everywhere, this is not a property you can walk from. Main bedroom is standard double with one small wardrobe. Clothes dresser for storage is in the hallway. Few plug points in main bedroom - we bought and donated a multiplug extension to the property as otherwise you can't charge phones etc in the bedroom. Kitchen design is poor: the fridge/freezer and hob/oven are in a cramped galley utility. You have to carry ingredients out of the utility to chop and prep, then carry them back into the utility as you're cooking. Kitchen equipment poor - no chopping boards, no baking trays, two small roasting dishes, poor quality implements (flimsy fish slice, no wooden spoons etc). Water pressure erratic for the sinks and bath, although the shower is ok. Filling a glass from the tap or washing up in the kitchen sink are a nuissance due to the surge and fade of the pressure. Cleanliness: lots of cobwebs in the corners when we arrived, so we hoovered on arrival, and had to give the bathrooms a once-over when we arrived as well. For a one-week stay, the laundry/cooking/sleeping issues are probably fine. We stayed a fortnight, glad to leave by the end.

Thanks for your elaborate feedback regarding your stay at Highbury Cottage. Our response to your feedback is as follows: 'Very damp large patches of mould on living room walls'- Please be corrected, ,there is ONE wall ( feature wall) which has a small damp patch which has regular treatment as and when required. At the end of the season, this small patch will be treated and re rendered. 'Lots of black mould in bathrooms' - Shower room has slight blackening on the silicone seal of the shower tray. We treat and clean this between every change over to make it as clean as possible. Bathroom, we've never encountered any black mould in the bathroom. 'Plenty of slugs and beetles in the property' - We've never seen a slug nor a beetle in the property. 'There's no tumble drier' - Correct , there's no tumble drier. Tumble drier is not listed in the features section of the booking page. If this was important to you, you should have booked a cottage that listed a tumble drier. 'Clothes took >48 hours to dry on the airer' - During the fortnight that you stayed, there was no periods of wet weather that lasted >48 hours. There is a folding clothes line positioned outside which most guests make full use of. 'Bedrooms are 3-4 meters from the road which is a 60mph speed limit' - At last an accurate observation - again this is detailed on the Syke's website. 'You will need to drive everywhere. This is not a property you can walk from' - Correct again, we are proud to be in rural Pembrokeshire. This is clearly shown on the directional map on booking. 'Main bedroom is a standard double with one small wardrobe' - Correct, main bedroom is a standard double. The wardrobe however is a double wardrobe , not small as you've stated and more than adequate for a stay. 'We bought and donated a multiplug extension to the property as otherwise you can't charge phones etc in the bedroom'- There is a multiplug extension already in the double bedroom underneath the bed and also another multiplug extension in the twin room. This has always been adequate. 'Kitchen design is poor' - There is ample room in in the galley utility between the sink and microwave to prepare food. We are sorry that the design did not meet your expectations but again this is clearly shown on the website on booking. 'Kitchen equipment is poor' - We've always had a high proportion of reviews which stated how well equipped the kitchen is. There are 2 glass chopping boards . We will however do a full audit of equipment at the next changeover and replace/add to if necessary. 'Water pressure erratic for the sinks and bath'- This is another first in 7 years of renting our cottage out. This will be investigated and if any issues found this will be rectified. 'Cleanliness' - The property is checked for cob webs and cleaned to a high standard at every changeover. We are sorry this did not meet your expectation. 'We stayed a fortnight, glad to leave by the end'- We are sorry that you felt glad to leave our property. Having never had any guests leave such a bad review in the seven years that we have been welcoming holiday makers in. We are saddened and disappointed that you had all of these issues. Not once did you make these issues known to us during your stay. If you had done so, we would have done our utmost to resolve any issues within our control. We did notice an extra guest arriving during the second week of your stay for a couple of nights. This goes against Sykes' guest policy unless approved by the owners beforehand . ( See point 1.10.4 'Guests') under UK Booking Terms and Conditions. Under 'Your responsibilities ' ( Points 7.3.1 and 7.3.2) 'The number of people occupying the property will not exceed the number stated in the booking confirmation'; and 'You cannot arrange for additional visitors to come to the property without obtaining written consent of the owner in advance'. We hope you find a property that meets your expectations on your next booking. Good luck ! Property Owner

  • "Friendly owners."

Very well equipped cottage. Excellent for heavy sleepers & people who don't need internet. The internet was exceptionally - slow download speed 3-5 Mbps according to Ookla test (at home I get 135 Mbps !!). The statement "some associated road noise outside" is misleading. The numbers of vehicles passing the site is not exceptionally high but many of them are HGV's travelling at speed. Noisy from 0600. Obviously nothing owners go do about this but future visitors should be aware before booking.

Thank you for your feedback . Regarding the Wi-fi download speed . This unfortunately is what we in rural Pembrokeshire have to accept at the moment. We have been trying for the last 7 years and been promised Superfast fibre to the property but as yet nothing has materialised. It will be installed as and when it becomes available. As regards road noise, you are correct in saying that we as owners can do nothing about the traffic noise but have to say that previous guests have commented that road noise is not an issue and even said how quiet the property is considering it’s position. We sincerely hope that these issues you mentioned do not deter future bookings. Thankyou Property Owner
