  • "Lovely property and comfortable."

Everything we needed was there and the beds were comfy and plenty of hangers in the wardrobe - a first. It would’ve been nice to have been left an extra loo roll, one for a family for a week isn’t enough. Leaving wood, even though we didn’t need it, and a welcome pack and welsh cakes was lovely. It felt like being at home.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at The Forge."

It is very dog-friendly with a secure garden and a decking area so our dog could run outside with no worries. It was easy to find and the instructions inside gave us all the information we needed. It is spacious and comfortable and the kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of storage and a good fridge and freezer. We had the impression that remedial work had been carried out and it was very smart. The cottage is very close to the coast and lovely beaches and the coastal footpath can be accessed by walking down a quiet lane which was also a good dog walk in the evening.

Has everything you need in the kitchen and also washing machine hoover etc. The property is clean and modern. Beds are nice and comfy. Friendly neighbours. Cafe at the garden centre is excellent. Beaches are only 10 minute drive. Clean and not too busy. Had a lovely 6 night stay

  • "Lovely cottage, very clean and comfortable."

Great position, some beautiful walks nearby, fab place to get away from it all as isolated. Only drawbacks was that the oven was very slow and took ages to heat up and shower pressure was really poor. Also, might be good to provide code for the padlock on the bin at the front of the property, we couldn't leave the rubbish in there. Other than that, all fine.

We think the radiators need bleeding as they made a clinking sound a d the double bed was really really hard.

  • "Lovely detached cottage with fantastic views."

Had everything we needed. Could only have been improved with some more information on arrival such as what to do with bins, WiFi password etc. Location is very remote and rural.

  • "The owners and cleaners should be aware that we did not stay in the cottage this week (14/10/21-21/10/21) due to a booking mixup."

We did enter the Old Forge on the 14th, but only had a cup of tea before moving on to alternative accommodation. This means there was no rubbish, but also no rubbish collection. It also means that the beds *do not need changing* - we never used them at all. Best wishes, Niall Palfreyman.

  • "The cottage was lovely and the perfect quiet location for our family holiday."

More spacious and homely that the photos convey. Well decorated and equipped, and furnishings and bedding of a high standard. We appreciated the cushions and throws in the evening whilst watching the Olympics! The twin room was particularly roomy, ideal for our two tweenagers. The small lawned area and separate decked dining area were secure for our dog (who is agile and lively so we did supervise). Beautiful views from the kitchen and decked area. Plenty of space to park in communal space between the cottage and the three other properties. Nice neighbours who advised us of lovely local walks (there's one behind the cottage over the fields to the footpath to the waterside, views over to Dale. You can walk all the way to Dale over the small estuary at low tide) St Ishmael's garden centre is 2 mins from the cottage - worth a visit for the fab cake (enormous slices!) and cuppa in china tea cups. Several visits to the spectacular Marloes Sands (access by foot only from car park in field/NT; dog friendly), other local beaches in Dale (great for watersports, boys went kayaking), Little Haven/BroadHaven. There's a fab pizza place in Broadhaven opposite the chippy. .Great to explore wider St Davids area too. Nearest local supermarkets in Broadhaven, then Haverfordwest or Milford Haven. One of the best properties we've stayed in for a few years, so well done to the owners and cleaners. Areas for improvement would be providing a guest folder with information about the cottage including how to turn on the heating and rubbish collect arrangements.

  • "We had a lovely holiday and the property was good."

Just a few things to point out. You need to put a sign on the roadside of the property with the name of the house as it was difficult to locate. Also the pillows were very lumpy and in poor condition. The duvet cover on double bed was too big for duvet. Not your fault but we chose this property with understanding the pub was within walking distance. Unfortunately the pub has shut down whether due to Covid I’m not sure. There are other pubs nearby but not walking distance at night time.

  • "The listing doesn't show how nice this place is."

It was much better than expected and felt much roomier than it looked in the photos. (Maybe due to high ceilings? Maybe camera angles?). There is actually central heating run off a boiler now, rather than storage heaters as listed, as well as a back-up electric panel heater in lounge, underfloor in bathroom and a log stove. The garden was secure for our medium-sized dog. Slate floors, everywhere but bedrooms, made it easy to clean up the sand that came home with the dog too. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering, with good pans and sharp knives etc and there was space in the cupboards for groceries. Everything was in working order, but electric oven is not a fan one though so does take a fair while to warm up. We only used one bedroom but the double bed was quite comfortable. Sofas were comfy too. (They are leather though, if you are reading this and vegetarian). Views were nice, a lake with swans on from lounge and lovely sunsets from kitchen window (I must have taken about 20 photos). Local roads are mostly single track but not too, ("too" as in like Cornish), narrow and have enough passing spaces to get by. There is a stony beach about 15 mins walk away and other great ones a short drive away. We only visited beaches, so cannot comment on other local points of interest. I really enjoyed this trip, in spite of the rain. I would certainly book The Forge again if I returned to the area.

  • "The cottage itself (The Forge, St Ishmael, Pembrokeshire, Wales) was lovely and we felt that Covid 19 procedures had been followed."

However, the bathroom was quite mouldy, especially behind the toilet and sink. In the bedroom, with the double bed, there were signs of damp on the ceiling and this room smelled a little bit fousty. Also, we were there for 2 weeks but only had towels for one week - in fact only 3 bath sheet towels were provided but there were four of us: a change of towels mid holiday would have been nice. We could have washed them but the washing line was broken, and as there was no tumble drier, we could not get them dry - we ended up buying our own towels. Another thing - more than four bowls need to be provided so that we could have made more use of the dishwasher - we just washed up in the end - washing up bowl was too big for sink! none of these things stopped us from having a good holiday and or would prevent us from booking with you or The Forge again - but you did ask for feedback to make the cottage / holiday better!

We are terribly sorry to hear that your stay was not quite up to your expectations. We would like to assure yourself and our future guests of the points you have kindly raised have now been fully addressed and no longer considered to be a concern. Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Customer feedback is very important to help us continually improve our standards. The owners of The Forge. • "Disappointed that the washing line was broken this year and not replaced as made it hard to dry any clothes from the children including wetsuits and life jackets."

Would love them to have a BBQ that wasn’t rusty and lay on the floor exactly there it was last year. So on first approach it looked extremely run down this year. Also the bushes out the back are so over grown this year, be lovely to have them chopped back slightly to make it easier to enjoy the balcony space with the lovely view it offers. Although the new heating system works brilliantly and much more effective than previous years (6th year in this cottage) overall we had an amazing time and for us it’s always just a base and does the job we want - Thank you again for another year here! We would happily return

  • "Although the double bed that my mother slept in was very comfortable, the twin beds were not."

In order to make my mattress comfortable I covered it with the duvet from the other bed and slept on that. If both beds were being used both occupants would have had a very uncomfortable week. Other than that the cottage was perfect. However finding it was a nightmare. Directing someone there from Johnston may be ok for a local but makes no sense to someone coming from West Sussex or Mid Wales as we were because it takes you out of your way, and talking to a resident at a neighbouring cottage we were told that several people had said the same thing. My mother and I came in separate cars and it took each of us an hour to find the cottage once we were in St Ishmaels because the directions made no sense. May I suggest the directions are changed to the following? Once in St Ishmaels ask someone to direct you to the garden centre. With the garden centre on your left proceed along the road until you get to the t junction - a few hundred yards. The Forge is the building on your left at the junction.
