Valerie was there to greet me and show me around, she had very kindly left a fruit bowl and welcome hamper, including milk for my first cuppa. The cottage is perfect, very clean, fully equipped and centrally heated and in a beautiful location on the coast, with direct access to the pebble beach. The gardens are just lovely, even in the rain in November. I was on my own for part of my stay and enjoyed the peace and quiet. It's a very relaxing place to stay. There is a well stocked shop at the nearby station, it's just a 2 minute walk to the cottage from Cooden Beach station, great if you're not driving. It's a lovely walk along the promenade into Bexhill on Sea. I would highly recommend and would love to return. Thank you Valerie.

Fully deserves its 5 star rating. Everything was excellent. There was a warm welcome from Valerie, comfortable and clean accommodation with excellent facilities and a lovely welcome package. We especially enjoyed sitting on the sheltered patio with its outlook through the garden to the sea. Sykes - Failed to Meet Expectations. In April 2021 we were given no option but to rebook our holiday, at increased cost, due to COVID travel ban. Sykes later revised its policy on refunds but this option was not offered to those that had already rebooked. In April 2021 we had to take holiday. No other option was offered! This despite many COVID restrictions still being in place, meaning that things that one would reasonably expect to enjoy when on holiday were not available, eg indoor dining, indoor attractions, entertainment etc. and we had to prebook visits to most outdoor attractions that we would normally visit on an ad hoc basis dependant on our mood and the weather. In our view Sykes is out of line with other companies in this sector and we will not be using them again unless their policies are clearly changed to give fairer options to all customers. Thanks for listening.

Following a period of "lock down" the comfort and peace offered by an escape to this location was greatly appreciated. We received a very warm welcome from Valerie, the owner, who left the apartment well provisioned with fresh fruit, flowers, bread, biscuits and sundry other items all of which ensured that we settled in speedily and with ease. The apartment is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. A good supply of reading materials is provided both fictional and factual. As keen walkers, we particularly enjoyed the book of walks recommended for the area and used it each day. Additionally, Valerie was often on hand to offer advice on locations of interest which are worthy of a visit. The garden at Herbrand, through which the beach may be accessed, is superb. In mid April it is lovely and we imagine that in high summer it will be glorious. Whether a keen gardener, or someone simply seeking a place to sit and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine, it adds a special element to the holiday. Although the temperature in the evenings, during our visit, did not allow for outdoor dining, we will retain, with pleasure the memory of sitting in a sheltered and cosy seating area overlooking the sea, enjoying our morning coffee in the glorious Sussex sunshine. We often book holiday accommodation via Sykes Cottages and in our opinion this is one of the best.

Beautiful garden surrounds the house, the pride and joy of owner, Valerie, who could not be more helpful and thoughtful. In good weather, this would be a spectacular place to stay. In bad weather, it’s still much better than staying at home! So much of interest in the area. eg. Hastings, Bexhill, Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne, Rye (all accessible by train from station 5 mins walk from property!). Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters, Alfriston, Charleston, Batemans, the Downs.... endless really.
