The East Sussex coastal village of Fairlight is ideally suited to those searching for peace and tranquillity, yet, set as it is between Hastings and Rye, the village is also right in the centre of the coastline in historic '1066 country'. Fairlight offers a village store with post office, local pub and farm shop. From Fairlight, there is easy access to walks in the country, by the coast and along the cliff-tops, plus superb bird watching at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and with the RSPB at Lydd. Famous attractions within easy reach include the ancient castles of Hastings, Bodiam, Pevensey and Camber, as well as the larger seaside resorts of Hastings and Eastbourne. The Cinque Ports of Romney, Hastings, Rye and Hythe offer historic days out in these charming towns, while the miniature Romney and Hythe Railway is a must for seeing this part of the coastline. Further inland can be found the towns of Battle and Tenterden, with churches and buildings steeped in history, good shopping and at Tenterden, a full size steam railway. With the option to head into Ashford and catch the Euro Tunnel train to France for the day, this is a beautiful base for a varied break.

A very peaceful and relaxing holiday in delightful surroundings. We received a very warm reception from the owners, they made us feel at home straight away. We will be going back again.
Mr Gasston, Peterborough, October 2011
This cottage was excellent value for money in a delightful cliff top location. The owners were first class hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they volunteered valuable information on interesting attractions nearby, as well as general directions.
