Newick is a medium-sized, pretty village situated in the heart of Sussex, on the A272 in the Low Weald of East Sussex, almost mid-way between the busy towns of Haywards Heath and Uck?eld. At the centre of the village is the village green, which is surrounded by local shops including a chemist, grocery store with Post Office and a baker’s shop where the bread is baked daily and there is always a queue for their delicious pies, cakes and sandwiches freshly made each day, opening for customers from 6am. Newick also has three pubs all serving meals and real ales. Indeed The Crown can boast of a Certi?cate of Excellence, so well worth a visit when dining out. Alternatively, why not try The Newick Tandoori a family-run restaurant which serves Indian and Bangladeshi food? The restaurant is open seven days a week and also o?ers a takeaway service, so whether you wish to dine in style or enjoy a delicious Indian takeaway meal while watching the TV the choice is yours! For a village, Newick has a bustling community with over 30 di?erent societies and clubs, so it is small wonder that they have an amateur theatre group who present regular plays at the Village Hall. But the highlight of the calendar year is the Newick Bon?re Night. Held at the end of October the roads through the village are closed to tra?ic and starting with the children’s pageant, residents walk along the lanes dressed in costume and carrying torches towards the village green where an enormous bon?re sits. Around the village green there are stalls serving hot food and drinks while music plays. This is one of the many bon?re events held all over Sussex between the months of September to November, with Newick holding one of the prime positions, and this is not a bon?re event just for younger visitors, this is a festival for all ages and abilities and with so much happening this truly is an evening to remember. Newick, a lovely Sussex village with a huge welcome.
