  • "It's a nice accommodation but it felt a bit impersonal."

There was no 'welcome pack' with all necessary information for ourstay (general info about the property, the area, shopping, medical info etc.) There were notes all over the property explaining how the heating and the oven worked etc. However, having this in one place would be our recommendation. The messageboard above the fridge is not very easy to read, with all the notes being very high up. Most properties we stay at also have a clear email with instructions for key collection etc. I would advice doing this instead of having each visitor call you before their stay. Having to write down all the details and hoping you have remembered everything correctly isn't a very relaxing start of the holiday - if you do insist on a phone call I would suggest to send all the details again in writing just to make sure. Other than that we had a loverly stay, despite it being cut short by almost 2 days thanks to transport issues. The property is very well located, in walking distance of the station/shops, seaside etc.

Thankyou for taking the time to give your feedback which we have considered carefully. Firstly, for the benefit of future guests, we would like to make sure they know that the blue box in the lounge, contains a lot of information about the local area which they are free to use. We intentionally put instruction signs up near the particular pieces of equipment as we feel that is where most people would use it, particularly the boiler, the TV and the kitchen utensils and it prevents documents etc going astray, but we take on board your comment that a central information point might be helpful as a back up. We do prefer to speak with our incoming guests as we do not live close enough to meet them at the property, and we find that a phone call gives them, as well as us, the opportunity to exchange information about their stay, but guests would always be welcome to have a follow up email if necessary and guests are always invited to call us if they need help during their stay. Many thanks again for your feedback and we were pleased you had a pleasant stay in Seacape. Property Owner

It took over 30 minutes to fill the over large bath which seems a waste of water, the hand shower in bathroom was very low pressure and shower room needs old silicone removed and renewed as it is black in places and garden needs tidying up and cutting back.

We were obviously very disappointed to receive these comments but thank you for taking the trouble to raise the points you have made. We have since engaged our plumbers to carry out a thorough investigation of the water pressure issue that was raised. Some alterations have now been made to the plumbing, including replacement of the bath taps, which has resulted in a considerable improvement in the water pressure so the combined water supply into the bath is now in excess of 20 litres per minute. • "Positives - Overall the house was in a good location and was clean and nicely decorated."

House very well supplied with kitchen equipment. Parking is fine with designated driving space. Bexhill is a good base location wise to explore East Sussex and Kent. Owners were very pleasant to deal with. Negatives - shower facilities. Whilst a new shower has been fitted in the ensuite, the main bathroom does not have a fully functioning shower. It's simply a hand held shower head with no shower curtain or cubicle. This is probably due to the low water pressure. It meant that everyone had to use the ensuite which is not ideal for a 3 bedroom/6 person house. Comfortable beds and lounge area. Bexhill on Sea itself looks rather tired in places. In the areas local to the house we were surprised by the volume of weeds in the pavements and road side making it look quite unsightly. We've never seen a anything so bad. Locals don't seem to bother much trying to make the area tidier and seemingly no sign of the council. Personally the better locations to stay are Hastings, Rye and Lewes. I always think it's a nice touch too when a little welcome pack is left for guests. Had this many a time at other houses but nothing really at Seascape. Overall though we had a lovely holiday.

  • "We enjoyed our stay very much and loved the situation, shore and town, but we had five adults staying and there are four very big heavy chairs around the table, so we got a chair from the garage which was padded and that person sank way below the level of everyone else."

It was not quite right and fitting a sixth person in would have been very hard. Also the microwave oven sits on an insecure unit that houses the bin and is slightly too small for the oven to sit on properly so there is a risk of it falling backwards or to the side if one is not mindful. It was unsafe.

Sadly, because we hope to return at some point in the future without competing for a time slot! Great facilities, perfect balance of family friendly decor and homely touches without being cluttered. Very clean and nicely decorated. And now an improved shower in the en suite. Close to the lovely wide promenade, and less than fifteen minutes from town centre. Seascape, and Bexhill should remain undiscovered gems…but if you do visit, we endorse recommendations for Minnie Bertha’s fish and chips and Sobremesa’s south american menus.

Delighted you came to Seacape again and to hear you had another good stay and enjoyed the accommodation backed up with a better shower in the ensuite. Being on three floors take a bit of getting used to, especially the stairs! Position is good; far enough from the town centre to be away from the hustle and noise, but close enough for easy access to shops, restaurants, etc. Beach & prom is a few hundred yards away. The owners had a power shower installed in the en suite shower room whilst we were there; this now provides a shower with good flow and pressure. Much improved on previous installation.

Many thanks for the feedback. Really pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay in Seascape and that the shower improvement has made such a difference. Hope to see you again sometime in the future. Property Owner

  • "Seascape is a very comfortable house in good condition and well located."

There is however one very significant caveat, the shower is appalling. The water though hot, really only trickles out. The owners are obviously aware as there are notes to that effect, but they should sort it out. Perhaps raise the tank in the loft onto a platforn near the apex of the roof to gain a better head and try getting a new mixer valve that is designed for low pressure. It's just not good enough.

Firstly we are grateful for this feedback and we do appreciate the frustration when a shower fails to meet up to expectations. We wanted to let you know that the problem has been taken seriously, has been addressed with our plumber and are pleased to report that the problem has now been resolved. A booster pump has now been installed in the pipework which feeds the shower and this has proved to be successful in significantly raising the water pressure so the shower is now of a good and consistent quality and should give the user an enjoyable shower. We thank you again for your feedback about the shower but also for the general comment in support of Seascape in your opening sentence. Kind regards Property Owner

Lovely house, tastefully furnished, well equipped, spotlessly clean. The only fault, and it's a major one is the lack of a decent shower. However much we tried to follow the owners advice (so he realises the problem), we did not succeed. A house of this quality and rental cost should have a power shower not a "dribble". • "The en-suite shower was dreadful!"

!!!!! The hot water tank only had enough water for half a bath and the shower attachment on that was rubbish too. We rang the phone number of the owners but received no reply!

We were very disappointed to receive your feedback but are grateful to have these issues brought to our attention. We have been advised by South East Water that there were water supply issues during this period caused by Storm Eunice with more than 100 sites in the area lacking power which did not help water supply matters. Regarding the shower, we are taking further advice from our plumber to ensure the best possible water pressure. The hot water tank is rated appropriate for six persons and the boiler timings are set to the manufacturers standard (and can be boosted if necessary), so there should always be sufficient hot water for the requirements of up to six people. We welcome any phone contact by guests during their stay, and we have taken steps to improve the landline contact, but it is still necessary for guests to try both numbers as there is no mobile phone reception in our home area. Both phones are set to ring 8 times before the answer phone cuts in. We are pleased to see that in other respects you had an enjoyable stay at Seascape. Property Owner

From the first floor balcony, you can sit and watch the waves crashing on the beach (they were most of last week!). It takes one minute to walk to the beach so the location is perfect. The shops and train station is less than 10 min walk away - we walked to Hastings and caught the train back - very enjoyable. The house has everything you need and more ie twice as many knives, forks and spoons compared to the number of occupants so you can let the dishes stack up and then have a full load in the dishwasher - environmentally good and what you want for your holiday. Beds all comfortable and easy to get the temperature of the property just right - it can be so frustrating when you don't know systems and it ends up being boiling hot or too cold. In October half term there was as much parking as you would like - cannot comment for summer months but getting one car off the street and in front of the house was perfect. Highly recommend.

  • "Seascape in Bexhill is a modern and fabulously well equipped property - it had everything you could possibly want with the one curious exception of a DVD player (though maybe that was in a cupboard and we didn't look hard enough!"

). The seaside theme also runs through it in all the decor in a very pleasing way. In booking it, you need to be aware that there is another Seascape in Bexhill, at the other end of the seafront, which is right on the promenade, whereas this Seascape is set one road back from the beach (only a couple of minutes walk away though). The other thing to be aware of - though it is obvious from the description - is that it's a townhouse, so if walking up and down stairs a lot is a problem, it may not be the property for you, especially as they are quite steep at the top and bottom of each flight where there also isn't a rail (though you can hold onto the posts). Also the living room is on the 1st floor whereas the kitchen and dining table is on the ground floor. There is also no toilet on the first floor, but there are on ground and second floors. All minor things, but just to be aware. We had a lovely week there, despite being put to the test by the weather and clearly in summer it would be great to sit out in the small, secluded garden at the back with a glass of wine or two. Booking online with Sykes was easy and communications from the owner beforehand were also excellent and much appreciated. If you want a week or two by the seaside in this nice quiet town but which nevertheless has an increasingly good range of dining and bar options as well as the iconic De La Warr Pavilion, is a great base for East Sussex and Kent coast and the beautiful Weald inland, and you want to be encouraged to hit your daily steps target (!), then we would absolutely recommend it.

Being both elderly we were unable to walk to the restaurants in the town, which had no grocers or pub, and had to drive every day and find parking. The nearest shop was a Tesco supermarket, again a drive away. However we loved the house and Bexhill for a lovely peaceful holiday and so close to many places to visit.

Thank you for staying at Seascape and providing feed back. The closest restaurant, Sackville Bistro is 250 yards away. The closest shop is a Mace general store about 1/2 a mile along the seafront just after another restaurant, Bistro 45. Devonshire Road is about 200 yards further on where there are a range of shops including a Co op, Iceland, Boots and Smiths as well as local shops and various restaurants. We were very much saddened to see our guests had not been able to find this area of Bexhill but would be happy to direct any future guests who have difficulties with this. Property Owner

  • "Where do you begin?"

Seascape is in a fantastic location for a start, a short walk from trains buses, old Bexhill, Bexhill-On-Sea and an even shorter walk to the gorgeous shingle beach. Hastings is a not far by public transport or car and we spent two days there. The house itself was immaculate in cleanliness and decor and the facilities left pretty much nothing to be desired compare to places we have stayed previously. The garage was useful for storing things like buggies and bikes and buckets for the beach. The basics are all provided and it really feels like a home from home. The kids all loved it and our Eldest cried on our first night home as she wanted to go back. The balcony was a hit and real suntrap. A truly great place to stay if you can get in before it gets booked up! A true gem. • "This was our 3rd holiday in 'Seascape'."

The house is lovely and suits us 4 adults very well. We have spent a lot of time in Bexhilll, and find it an ideal location for walking, visiting NT properties and catching up with friends. 'Seascape' is close to the sea front, the De La Warr pavilion, shops and a variety of restaurants. Ideal for us! We will probably be back again in 2019. Our visit this year coincided with the hot spell. We felt very fortunate! 'Seascape' is a very clean, beautifully equipped, most attractive house. A delightful home from home, even the garden was blossoming while we were there - daffodils, rosemary, bluebells & cherry blossom. Please pass on my thanks, if possible, to Mr & Mrs Morris for their delightful holiday home. We really appreciated our stay there. Stephanie Savage

About the location

BEXHILL-ON-SEA

Hastings 5.5 miles; Eastbourne 12.5 miles.

Sandwiched between Eastbourne and Hastings is the vibrant East Sussex coastal town of Bexhill-on-Sea, with its traditional, two-mile promenade with deck chairs and beach huts. Bexhill-on-Sea is also home to the world-famous De La Warr Pavilion, which features excellent arts programmes throughout the year. There are many interesting shops, museums and town gardens, plus a motoring heritage centre, as the town was home to the first British motor race meeting. The town also offers excellent sporting opportunities, with good golfing, sea fishing, sailing, windsurfing, wind kiting available and for walkers, the 1066 Country Walk. Within easy travelling distance from Bexhill-on-Sea are the historic market towns of Hastings and Battle with its abbey. Battle is the famous site of the Norman conquest at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; there's an interpreted walk and museum etc which is great for a family day out. The maritime Cinque Port of Rye offers narrow cobbled streets filled with antique and independent shops and tea rooms, while boats pass along the river. A visit to Royal Tunbridge Wells is a must, boasting wonderful old buildings and excellent restaurants, tea rooms and shopping, and there are many National Trust and English Heritage properties within reach by car too. Whatever you do in this wonderful area, Bexhill-on-Sea is a lovely place to stay.
