Location: Ferns, County Wexford

Enniscorthy 7.5 miles; Courtown 14 miles.

The small, historic town of Ferns in County Wexford lies 7.5 miles from Enniscorthy, the second largest town in the county, and is famous for its long religious past. Established in the 6th Century, Ferns has had a profound influence on Irish history, and is home to numerous landmarks and historic and religious buildings, evidence of its illustrious past. Today, only half of Ferns Castle is still standing, however, its beauty remains evident as it stands tall in the heart of Ferns. Close by, the historic town of Enniscorthy, situated on the River Slaney, boasts lots for tourists to see and do including the ever-popular greyhound racing track, while the coastal resort of Courtown is only a short drive away. Take a stroll along Courtown Harbour and spend an afternoon on the beach, or alternatively, walk or cycle your way through Courtown Wood, and stop for a picnic by the beautiful Owenavarro River. Within a short drive is the lovely beach at Morrsicastle, and a little further lies the Blue Flag sandy beach at Curracloe, great for families. With lots to see and do, Ferns is a fantastic base for touring the area.
