  • "A fantastic property in a scenic village."

The cottage was perfect, kitchen and bathroom where modern and perfect, the bedrooms were so cosy and comfortable. And the lounge was so perfect to relax for quiet evenings. The area around is picturesque, with so many friendly local towns to explore. The property owner is so friendly and nice, especially as I left my AirPod at the cottage and they were so helpful in getting it back to me.

We fell in love with the Dales then, and we have to scratch that itch on a fairly regular basis! The cottage was warm when we arrived (late January) the fire was laid and there was a very nice 'welcome' gift - thank you. We will return, and probably to The Curlews.

Even though the kitchen is compact there is plenty of storage space and it is really well equipped. The host couldn’t have done more to make sure our stay went well. We will be back!

  • "A fabulous cosy cottage-it’s definitely the best we’ve been to so far."

Loved the furnishings and it’s obvious a lot of care has been taken to make it so welcoming -thanks for the wine and biscuits too. Location is ideal with fields outside the front door to walk our dogs. The Red Lion pub is an absolute gem. Great beer, warm and a lovely landlady who had so many interesting tales to share. She was a pleasure to talk to on quieter nights. They don’t do meals anymore but do offer crisps and sweet treats. The cottage had ample hot water, heated towel rail in the bathroom much appreciated and the heating kept us cosy and warm. We loved the wood burner and were impressed with the supplies of wood and coal too. The only thing that would make it better is a washing machine-I was not planning to do laundry on holiday but sometimes situations arise and the facility would have made life easier. Not the end of the world obviously but maybe something to consider when the barn next door is developed. We will definitely be back

  • "The cottage location was idyllic and perfect as a base for dog walking."

We found it very clean and the wine and biscuits awaiting us on arrival were a very welcome and enjoyable surprise. Appreciated also was the ample supply of logs and coal for the fire, though kindling was sparse (with no backup). And while the owners welcomed ‘two well behaved dogs’ and we received strict rules on dogs in the cottage the owners contacted us while on holiday as they were surprised to see we had dogs (just two). Sykes apparently didn’t tell them we were bringing dogs but did they need to? The owners welcomed two well behaved dogs… apparently. Something of concern was a slippery shower floor and the shower lacked anywhere to put soap, shampoo etc. Lacking in the bedroom was a clock or radio though I appreciate this may not be important for many. I think a shame was nondescript supermarket art on the walls rather that any beautiful scenes of the dales and the local pub was a huge let down. It did not allow dogs and was crying out for a new owner. The hideous electric ‘wood burner’ just one of many likely reasons why the pub was all but empty every night (not representative of the area). There is the CB Inn a ten minute walk from the cottage but this was a restaurant that sold drinks rather than a pub that served food. They did though welcome dogs and had a real fire (and unlike the Red Lion, was busy). In short the cottage was okay (for two), the location was great and the local pub utterly dismal. Beware also, in a very small village like this, you might get the feeling you are being spied on.

It is a delightful place to stay and has everything one might need to make a holiday most enjoyable. As one can see from the photographs the cottage is small but wonderfully adequate. It is situated in the heart of the village of Langthwaite, just round the corner from The Red Lion where you can get a welcomed half pint at the end of a day of exploration. This was particularly relevant since the weather whilst in the dale was exceptionally hot. I totally recommend The Curlews as a place to stay, and I certainly will return there.

Curlews is equipped well enough and it has a homely atmosphere. Plenty of modern storage heaters and the log burner with seasoned logs provided would make it a very cosy cottage to return to following walks in the beautiful wall to wall countryside on cooler days. It might be considered a tadge small for four adults with one toilet and this being on the ground floor. Internet speed good.... we have an Amazon fire stick to pick up all tv options. Masses of film cds and games. Ideal cottage for two adults with children.

  • "The cottage was very clean, cosy and comfortable; a real home from home!"

There are some great walks from the cottage with stunning scenery and only livestock and birds to listen to - great! The Red Lion pub is about a 10 second walk away and serves very good beer - but the landlady told us that she isn't serving pies and sandwiches at lunchtime anymore. We definitely want to visit the cottage again.

There was good walking direct from the cottage and we enjoyed the CB Inn. For those of a certain age it would be good to have an upstairs toilet. Other more minor points include, we would have appreciated a small shelf in the shower for toiletries, it would also be nice to have a 2 pin shaver socket in the bathroom.

The cottage has been newly renovated and the owners have done a fantastic job. In my dreams, there'd be an upstairs WC, but I understand that's tricky with these small and v old cottages. But everything else was just wonderful - could not recommend it more highly.

  • "Whilst it did not detract from our stay there the downstairs bathroom and toilet will be a drawback for some, especially if you get up in the early hours and the dogs think its time for a walk, as they sleep downstairs."

The surrounding area offers some great walks so as a base its perfect, and after the walks the log burner was a joy to sit in front of at the end of the day.Unfortunately there was also some disappointment at dogs not being allowed in the pub,The Red Lion, and whilst this has nothing to do with the cottage owners it is rather unusual and a first for me after visiting many Dales pubs over a number of years.Overall it was a great stay in a lovely cottage in a beautiful part of Gods county,Yorkshire, thankyou Judith and all at Sykes.

There is no parking outside the cottage but just around the corner opposite the pub and locals are very nice and helpful. Cottage was as expected tho maybe smaller than previous ones we stayed in, but that said we where out every day so realy only slept and eat there. Its very romote and roads are narrow but worth taking your time for the views which are some of the best in UK! Being a bit picky a fixed shower rail would be nice over the bath as it kept falling down....not ideal if you have children.

The cottage had everything that we expected and required. We would stay there again.
