Barnard Castle 2 miles.
The small village of Boldron is situated in the heart of beautiful Teesdale. Boldron consists of a cluster of stone houses, a few farm dwellings and a delightful local pub. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep, with the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the River Tees and magnificent waterfall at High Force all close by. The nearby market town of Barnard Castle stands on the site of an ancient Roman ford which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney' by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes which were first laid out in the 12th century. Other local attractions include the magnificent Raby Castle in nearby Staindrop, the Bowes Museum, Beamish Open Air Museum, Yorkshire National Railway Museum, Alnwick Gardens and of course Hadrian's Wall, the great Roman frontier across the north of England.

The location was ideal for a perfect wind-down. The local pub was friendly and even did takeout meals with 24hrs notice.

The whole week was just fantastic, Black Barn is a credit to its owners. Great location for seeing the sites and walking. To wake up in the morning and look out over the open countryside was great - very peaceful. We will return!
