Location: Ravensworth Near Richmond

Richmond 4.5 miles; Barnard Castle 8 miles.

The peaceful, unspoilt and extremely pretty little village of Ravensworth lies just to the north of Richmond in a minor tributary of the River Swale. Made up of pretty, weathered sandstone cottages with their unusual 'Yorkshire' roofs - a mix of soft red pantiles and slate – the village is centred around a wide, picturesque village green. At one end of the green the popular Bay Horse Inn serves good food and drink. Pretty footpaths run from Ravensworth through the surrounding villages allowing visitors to enjoy many circular walks. Close by are the popular Swaledale market town of Richmond and the Teesdale market town of Barnard Castle. Both offer a wide range of amenities and shops. A lovely restful location!

Previous visitors' comments about Larklands:

This was our second visit and when we drove up to the property it was like coming home. Our hosts made us feel very welcome. It was lambing time when we were there and that was lovely to see and there was lots of activity on the farm. Our three dogs loved it. Whilst there we had sunshine, snow and rain but the property is always comfortable to be in and very cosy despite the large rooms. The 'Shoulder of Mutton' is a fantastic pub for food.

We all liked the standard of the property, and the living room was a great feature, particularly the sofa. The welcome gift was a nice touch too. We also liked the flowers scattered around the cottage.

The owners were great hosts and they made our stay outstanding and memorable. Grandchildren loved the cottage and they want more! Cheers and an absolutely lovely stay.

Excellent doesn't begin to describe the hospitality shown by the owners. We were overwhelmed and our grandchildren fell in love with the farm. The first night meal, prepared by the owner was delicious as was the "welcome" package of eggs/butter/jam/bread/milk etc. There wasn't a thing missing in the kitchen - and if it was, I'm sure they would have provided it. Overall, this team ensured that we'd want to visit Larklands and Yorkshire again. Everyone was knowledgeable about the area and the local pub was a delight.
