The Cartshed had everything we needed plus it was beautifully designed- just like the "Country Living"magazine style. Warm and spotlessly clean with little extra touches. Ann made us very we;come. It was great to see the Belted Galloway calves. A good location near Richmond on a working farm. Good local places to eat. We will be recommending it to all our friends.

The directions were spot on. It is a very scenic, peaceful spot and not difficult to get too from major roads. Definitely recommend.

The farm overlooked beautiful countryside, a 5 minute drive from bustling Richmond and a good centre from which to tour the quiet country roads and Yorkshire tourist sites. A perfect spot both for relaxation and adventure! We would love to return.

The only "fly in the ointment " which troubled us was Sykes' statement that " Guests - you are not permitted to invite guests back to the property". Last time we invited close friends to spend a night with us in the Cartshed , and they loved it too!. Is this a legacy of Covid restrictions ?. Next time we will name potential guests if that is what is required , because the price doesn't drop because of under-occupancy .

About the location

GILLING WEST

Richmond 3 miles; Barnard Castle 11 miles.

The attractive and peaceful Dales village of Gilling West, winner of the "Yorkshire in Bloom" award, is situated in lovely rolling countryside just a few miles to the north of the popular market town of Richmond. The village itself has a lovely old church, two real ale pubs both serving food. There are footpaths and bridleways in every direction and fishing is available nearby. Nearby Richmond grew up around its castle, famously situated high above the River Swale, with panoramic views of the river. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round. An ideal location for exploring all of Swaledale, Teesdale and the Yorkshire Dales.
