A hillside scattering of traditional farms and cottages make up the tiny hamlet of Healaugh, situated close to the River Swale in beautiful Swaledale. It’s a delightful area with magnificent countryside and stunning views of the valley and surrounding fells. The village of Reeth, within walking distance or just a short drive away, dates back to Saxon times and became of sufficient size and importance to be mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Later it became a centre for hand knitting and local lead mining. Its eighteenth-century houses and hotel clustered around the triangular village green make it one of the very popular Dales villages. Askrigg, better known to millions as Darrowby in TV's James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small", is just a short drive away as well as Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force (England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft).
