  • "A luxurious holiday cottage on the edge of the reservoir, such a peaceful location with stunning views."

The hosts are easily contactable and incredibly helpful. The cottage is well stocked - they’ve thought of everything! Lots of fabulous walks to do from the door step. The charming Grassington and Pateley Bridge (both have EV chargers in their main car parks) are a short car journey away with lots of dog friendly cafes.

Warm, comfortable, clean cottage with generous welcome hamper and an amazing view over the reservoir. Couldn't have asked for more and exactly what we were after. Lovely walk around the reservoir right on the doorstep, keeping an eye out for the resident barn owls a highlight. If you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet and to get away from it all for a week, would definitely recommend staying here and hope to come back ourselves.

Off grid, although you wouldn't believe it, all the comforts are there. I believe you should judge a place by how they react when things go wrong; big shout out to Gerry the caretaker who went out of his way to look after us and make sure we were ok, especially after the boiler broke down for the last 2 days. Really helpful, friendly and quick to respond. We are now trying to work out who we could come and stay with to enjoy another holiday in this remarkable place.

The only negative comment is the lack of opening windows. It was a warm week when we stayed and the only way to get some ventilation was to open a door. Also, It would have been nice to have a small dining table for evening meals. Having said that we had a lovely peaceful stay.

Walks rights on the door step with amazing views and wildlife. Welcome pack was fantastic and cottage has everything you could need. The hot tub was amazing and much prefer the wood fired one and was very easy to use after Jerry walked us through how to use it. Jerry was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble he could not have done anymore to make our stay comfortable. We had snow during our stay and Jerry and the owners Hayley and John again went above and beyond to make sure we were ok. We have had many cottage breaks and this has been the most enjoyable and we will definitely be back and highly recommend a break at Snave cottage.

However on closer inspection it was far from that. The beds were uncomfortable. Fixtures came away from the wall. There was debris in the sofas. At least three of the windows/doors leaked rain water into the property. Door frame in right hand bedroom was rotten and a strong draft. During our stay they were resetting the soil tank so the toilets didn’t flush first time and the bathrooms smell or waste matter. The generator was topped up so we had several hours without power.

  • "The cottage is beautiful, and in a stunning location."

The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing quiet break. We stayed there with my noise sensitive dog on bonfire weekend, the location is so remote I thought we would not here fireworks, we did hear a small display at the other end of the reservoir but it was so far away my dog wasn’t too bothered, she was more upset when the stove top kettle whistled when it boiled. The track to the log is terrible, the pot holes are very deep and for the majority of the road it is impossible to miss them. We arrived after it had gotten dark, the signage in and around the area is poor, I would recommend arriving in daylight if possible. The outside parking at the lodge is tight if there are guests in all 3 buildings, with large rocks ending the road. The cottage itself, was stunning, so peaceful and quiet, the other buildings were occupied while we were there, but we never saw or heard the other guests. The rooms are large and spacious with very comfortable beds, and the welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The cottage is situated in a very convenient area for exploring Yorkshire, you are very close to several attractions , we weren’t blessed with the best weather but we still enjoyed a couple of days out exploring. I would definitely recommend Snave cottage and we will look to book again in the future.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at snave cottage."

The cottage was beautifully decorated and everything we needed to make our time there special. We had a couple of issues with the log burner to the hot tub but Jerry was excellent and helped us out wished we would have told him sooner but didn't want to bother him. The description was correct to the cottage however it stated a washing machine which we didn't have a very small thing but did think with us having a dog could have been useful at times. But it didn't impact our stay. We had an issue with the double bed in one of the bedrooms the bed collapsed on me and my daughter one night so made it uncomfortable and could really sleep in there so 3 in a bed on the last night but these things were minor it didn't rain on our time here. The welcome hamper was very generous and we appreciated and enjoyed this, would have been good with some dog treats like the other cottages had but again small things. We will book again in the future we loved it, very quiet very cozy and loved yorkshire.

  • "Spending the week at this beautiful cottage is everything we expected it to be."

The location is quiet, just what we wanted but the road leading to the cottage could be improved. There are large potholes and it is very uneven and could certainly do with some improvement. Gerry was great, met us on our arrival and told us everything we needed to know. The welcome pack was fantastic and a lovely surprise especially the Prosecco and beer in the fridge. Thank you., overall we have been very happy with our stay. My only small criticism would be that we would have preferred an electric kettle and only one side of the toaster works. I did find the lid on the hot tub very heavy to lift for one person, it restricts the views and is awkward. A slated top would be much easier for one person to manage and give greater views. None of this however has stopped our enjoyment of the property though. A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing break, would highly recommend if you don’t mind being off the beaten track.

This didn’t worry us as we had an appropriate vehicle. With very soft water, rubber bath mats should have been provided for safety reasons as baths were very slippery. A better frying pan would have been nice. Beautifully presented.

Very clean and tidy. Jerry was very friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated and well appointed. It felt a cosy and nice place to stay. We had just 2 minor points. Firstly, we had no WIFI most of the week due to a technical problem, this did impact our stay as the weather was poor and we wanted to be able to watch films etc. Secondly, there was a light on outside all night which shines directly into the bedroom even with the curtains closed. The bulb was powerful and it lights up the whole room all night. It was hard to sleep in such a lit up room. Lots of pros for the cottage however, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the cottage. Due to covid we expected a better level of cleaning. You get camping-style views with hotel-style luxuries. The 2 bedroom cottage was perfect for us (myself, wife, baby, my parents, their dog), with a relaxed communal space for the baby and dog to roam around in. 15 mins to Grassington in one direction, and Pateley bridge in the other. The access road around the reservoir is a little bumpy (due to necessary drainage channels) but we managed fine in regular cars (Honda jazz and Ford fiesta). Special mention to Jerry the manager who we saw during check in and check out and was very friendly and helpful. Hot tub takes a while to heat up but worked well even during a freak hail storm. 4.5 mile walking/jogging track around the reservoir starts just outside the cottage door.

The grounds leave a lot to be desired though. The hot tubs are in the car park and sit on decking above a rubble car park. The grounds are set in a nature reserve which sounds fantastic, although when renovating the cottages the building waste has been dumped on the grassed area, with plaster board, barbed wire and broken bricks everywhere. Not ideal with dogs. If the owners took the time to clean up this piece of land and remove the rubble it would be so much better.

Many thanks for your feedback. If we may clarify that the land you have mentioned is moorland stone as opposed to ‘rubble’. This is behind the property on the same side as the hot tub. At the front of the property there is a courtyard and grassed areas that kids and dogs can play on. Property Owner

We had younger people staying next door for 3 nights who were keen to stay in the hot tub until the early hours. Hot water for a period of time to shower and wash up proved difficult, the water ran cold too quickly. Had to boil the kettle to wash up. The breakfast bar chairs are a bit too high meaning eating at the island felt like you were sat too high to eat comfortably. A coffee table or nest of tables in the lounge would be a good idea as there is nowhere to put drinks when sitting on the sofas except on the floor. This was ok for us but if someone had a dog or young children running around this could be a problem.

Appletreewick is set close to a river and is home to two award-winning pubs’. The many scenic walks include the Dales Way following the banks of the River Wharfe, whilst the nearby Parceval Hall Gardens offer woodland walks and quiet gardens with glorious views of Simon Seat. Appletreewick boasts two pubs and an unassuming little church which was converted from three cottages! A sleepy little village with great Dales appeal, Appletreewick makes a perfect base for a memorable holiday.
