  • "I stayed here from the 2-9th March with my son and dog."

We had a fantastic week and the cottage is lovely. I would point out that if you're not great on your legs it could be very difficult as the second you leave the front door you're on a hill. Heptonstall is a stunning little village with cobbled streets & a warm atmosphere. Lots of walks in and around Hebden Bridge and the walk down from the cottage is great aslong as you're fit

The back courtyard is small, but we took our dog to the nearby field ( 5 mins walk) . The shop next door is very handy and has a good range of essentials, try the local Sausages! The owners of the cottage were great and let us know when the cottage was ready. Plus we needed their help one day and couldn’t have had a quicker helping hand. The village has 2 very welcoming public houses and there is lots around to do and visit if the weather is in your favour’

Local countryside walks from cottage or into Hebden Bridge; there is an excellant bus service to Hebden Bridge close by (with onward bus and train services in HB) so only used the car once in a week! 2 pubs in the village and the friendly Fox and Goose pub just a steep walk or bus ride away should be visited.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. A reason for the mattress feeling slightly on the firm side could have been that it was brand new and you were the first guests to sleep on it. Generally a very nice cottage perfectly situated for local amenities in a charming and interesting village. Excellent cafe/take away opposite (in fact so good didn’t cook a meal the entire holiday). Lovely walks in vicinity so no need to use car unless travelling further out, 20 mins walk into Hebden Bridge down a fairly steep path but convenient bus back to avoid slog back up hill. Owners really helpful in sorting out queries. All in all a good experience.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback & also the comments on the crockery - this had not really occurred to us, so we have now provided more! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. One of the cleanest cottages I have stayed in. Stylish, contemporary furniture and decor with a great bathroom and kitchen. It also had fast wifi. Heptonstall itself is a wonderful village to stay in. It has 2 good pubs, a great cafe and a small community shop. It is also worth mentioning the great bus service that runs regularly and until late at night. Therefore, easy to get down to Hebden and back. I was able to ditch the car for the whole week! Hebden Bridge has many great cafes and pubs and the area is walkers paradise. You can walk along the canal or go up into the hills. Also, make sure you walk to Gibson Mill and Hardcastle crags - a really delightful walk. If you are a single person or couple, I would really recommend Weaver's cottage.

The owners were very friendly and keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay. There is a bus that runs from the village into Hebsen Bridge and the railway station if you don't want to use the car or walk. I can highly recommend the cottage for anyone wanting to stay in this part of England and we will definitely be returning in the future.

About the location

HEPTONSTALL

Hebden Bridge 1.5 mile; Haworth 8 miles.

The village of Heptonstall is set high on a prominent hillside above its close neighbour, Hebden Bridge. Heptonstall is one of West Yorkshire's best kept secrets; a wonderfully preserved village with a main street that has changed very little in the last 200 years. Formerly an important centre for hand-loom weaving, the village still retains its original trading hall, while the old Grammar School, by the churchyard, is now a museum testifying to the village's illustrious past. The churchyard is also the burial home for the American poet, novelist & short-story writer Sylvia Plath, perhaps best known for her collections of published poems & novel "The Bell Jar". Heptonstall was a place she stayed in before & during her marriage to the poet Ted Hughes. In the centre are the two remaining pubs, the Cross Inn, believed to date from the early 17th century, and the White Lion, rumoured to be haunted by a Roundhead on a horse, a throwback to when the village was besieged during the Civil War. Nearby is the attractive town of Hebden Bridge, while the area is a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway. Skipton, the Gateway to the Dales, is an easy and scenic car ride away.

Note: Babes-in-arms and children over 10 years old only.

Please Note: There are steep stairs to the lower ground floor utility room where there is restricted headroom, also there is a spiral staircase with open tread stairs to the second floor bedroom where there is restricted headroom as well.
