  • "We loved our stay at Bay Cottage - very cosy and an excellent location."

Instructions were clear, parking was good and the cottage itself had everything we needed (plus an additional surprise in the kitchen). Only slight disappointment was that the bedroom stove - which was the clincher for us picking this place over others - is decorative, which isn’t mentioned in the listing. But it was cosy enough without it and we enjoyed the use of the downstairs stove.

  • "A lovely cottage, a bit of a Tardis, small on the outside, big rooms on the inside, especially for two people."

A great quirky kitchen, with it's arched ceiling and a well, well equipped. We found the settees a bit too low and too soft, as we found the bed a bit too hard, (we're not as young as we'd like though). Didn't detract from our stay. The stone stairs were another great feature, if a little precarious in places. Overall a great cottage in a fabulous little picturesque town. Would definitely recommend Bay Cottage.

  • "We have just had our 5th consecutive stay at Bay Cottage."

The cottage is so cosy and comfortable. Really clean and warm. We feel really at home there. We used the stove every night after making use of the fabulous eating places on Main Street, Haworth. Highly recommend Pave, The Fleece inn, The Hawthorn, Vilettes and Cobbles and Clay. Bay cottage is in an ideal location for easy access to the amenities in Haworth such as Brontë parsonage, Worth Valley railway and the many local walks. There is a fabulous walking map of Haworth that can be purchased from the Waves of Nostalgia book shop. Big tip, wear walking boots when walking up to the Brontë falls and Top Withens. It is also well worth popping into the Wuthering Heights Inn at Stanbury after a walk. We don’t own a car and have been able to get out and about via the local bus service and visited Skipton castle and Thornton, to see the Brontë birthplace.

  • "The cottage was spacious, comfortable and in a good location."

The parking permit was very useful but parking spaces were hard to come by near the cottage. Our main criticism was the poor drainage from the hand basin and bath. The water was appallingly slow to drain away and as a result using them was difficult. Keeping them clean was also a problem - we could not find cleaning materials to use. We were disappointed as this problem had been highlighted in a previous review and did not appear to have been addressed.

  • "Location was excellent and within easy walking distance of amenities."

Also well placed for lovely local walking and steam train experience. Would also like to recommend a trip to Central Park. Bedroom was spacious and comfortable en suite would benefit from ventilation. Stone steps from bedroom to living room has a quarter turn and can be easily missed making the stairs awkward. This could be easily extended to full half turn making stairs easier. Lounge, this area would be enhanced by upgrade in furniture. Kitchen very cold the heating in this area requires upgrading. White goods were rusty in places and need replacing. Also needs more utensils etc in kitchen. Patio area requires attention.

  • "Having arrived at Haworth on the first day of our holiday we were disappointed to find our allocated parking space outside our cottage had been taken , however the owners informed us there was a parking space at the back of the property, we found the space and unloaded the car, about 10mins later our neighbour knocked on the door and said we couldn't park there as it was on his property, he was very nice and said this had happened quite a few times already we had to find a public car park and pay the price for a 13hr stay, I phoned the owners and said this wasn't acceptable as the only reason we' booked the cottage was because of the allocated parking outside and that the parking round the back was a blatant lie, however on waking up the next morning the car in our space had gone and we were able to park our car outside as allocated, I would also mention there was a lot of black hair in the plug of the washbasin, the wooden kitchen worksurfaces were sticky to the touch, the bin lid was dirty, the lock in the back door which led to a courtyard was faulty and the kitchen floor was visited by slugs in the evening , we packed up and left midweek feeling let down ."

.. Pictures lovely, but so deceiving. Shabby, dirty, Fire place disgusting, treacherous stone stairs. I accidently stepped off the end of the bottom stairs which was very scary. There is a warning about these steps, but not warning enough ! Rusty fridge. There is nothing to tell you that it is directly opposite a derelect and ugly building . Stayed 1 night and was happy to get home. Contacted the owners who were very unhelpful and annoyed at us for suggesting the cottage was not up to standard. Alse in the cottage write up it says you canpark round the back and come through the kitchen, not possible !! Parking a nightmare even with a permit. KA

The best bits were the Well, having two settees in a one bed holiday cottage (it's not that common), real fires, having a toilet on the same floor as the bedroom (again not that common in a one bed), parking outside and having the gorgeous moors just a stone's throw away. Plus the best part for me was being in the heart of Haworth but not in the bustle of Haworth. Every day, we went to a café or got take out lattes, caught up with friends and just ambled along the Main Street. If you want to relax in a quirky cosy cottage and benefit from having beauty, choice and history on your doorstep, then this is the place.

You can leave your car and head out as the surrounding countryside is so lovely. We were extremely lucky with the weather, as the week we stayed was warm and sunny. We brought our little dog with us, who is elderly so it was best to carry him up and down the stairs as they are stone and proved a bit of a challenge for him. The town is a gem and we were able to visit local pubs and enjoyed a lovely meal in Haworth Old Hall, albeit outside dining. Thankfully it was warm and the sun was out. We walked to Hebden Bridge and that was a smashing day out too. There are so many great areas to enjoy, Holden Park in Oakworth is well worth a trek out and the local steam railway stations are just lovely.

Also parking was a nightmare at times even though you are given a permit, you do struggle to park in the area. On arrival too there were several light bulbs out which credit where it's due was rectified once we made contact with the number left for us, but cobwebs on bedroom light fittings, walls and the wooden being beams should have been addressed. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend and book again, but more attention to detail on cleaning and not just hoovering and mopping the floor as each visitor leaves would be beneficial and addressing minor maintenance issues too as it looked like the light bulbs throughout needed replacing for some time as there were at least 5 not working, especially in the kitchen as it then made it dark and a hazard when negotiating the steep stone steps leading to the area. About the location

HAWORTH

Skipton 13 miles; Hebden Bridge 8 miles.

The small village of Haworth was home to the famous Bronte sisters, who were inspired by the surrounding moorland to pen their novels, which have become classics of English Literature. Haworth is a village that time almost forgot, with its myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets creating a wonderful period atmosphere, all set against a framing backdrop of countryside famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights as wild, rugged and barren. Nearby, the famous Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, provides a lovely day out with a regular service to the old village of Oxenhope. The area abounds with popular places to visit, including the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the National Railway Museum in York. The market town of Skipton, often fondly regarded as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is just a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate and vibrant Leeds and Manchester.
