Masham and Bedale 4 miles.
The pretty village of Thornton Watlass lies north of Masham and south of Bedale at the entrance to Wensleydale and the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park. At the centre of the village is the triangular village green, with its trees, cricket pitch and children's playground, surrounded by houses, some of which are built from local stone. Thornton Watlass Church dates from the 11th century and the village also has a public house called the Buck Inn. The nearby historic little market town of Masham is situated alongside the River Ure. Set in gently rolling farmland, the town boasts a huge market square, where a Wednesday market has recently been joined by a popular Saturday market. There are lots of walks around the area, including a recently reopened 10 mile walk along the Ure, arguably one of the best walks in the UK. The town boasts a range of crafts, galleries, shops, restaurants and pubs, and is the home to the Black Sheep Brewery, which now brews 11 million pints of beer a year! The popular towns of Ripon and Harrogate are an easy drive away. With so much to see and do in the area, this is a great base in all seasons.

Previous visitors' comments about Millstone Cottage:
The owners were extremely friendly, approachable and welcoming and the property was lovely. Everything we needed and extremely comfortable. It was also very dog friendly and a lovely village to stay in.
Mrs Heald, Ashton-under-Lyne, December 2011
Our hosts were excellent when we arrived, they couldn't do enough for us. The whole cottage was a real delight. We took our grandson down to feed apples to the horses on their land. The cottage is in a gorgeous setting and really not far from anywhere. We all loved it very much!
Mrs Crooks, Swindon, September 2011
The location of the property was ideal, being central to the area we wished to visit. The cottage is attached to the owners' own house, with stabling in the yard for their horses, which made it a pleasant and interesting place to be. The owners themselves were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Mrs Bosworth, Derby, June 2011
The owners made us very welcome, nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly. The garden and paddock were readily available for our dog to use whenever we liked and outside seating and tables were there to be used (weather permitting). We felt very comfortable.
