  • "Loved our stay Castle Hill Cottage, Great location, Brilliant waking up to the Horses passing by."

Kitchen was brilliant Everything there you need and more. Bedrooms and Bathroom all nice and fresh. i think it could be a cold place come Winter but has a great stove there . We had a couple of issues with Cleanliness which i spoke to the owner about, so hopefully this is in hand, But all in all a great Base for some time away. Would recommend

  • "Our stay was absolutely wonderful."

The facilities were all that we needed and we only made use of the rooms we required. Things to improve (this is what i would do). 1. Replace/remove chipped crockery 2. Have a deep clean ... we all know how quickly cobwebs appear so get the cleaning team to whiz an extendable duster around. 3. Defrost freezer and turn the temperature level to save your costs. 4. Replace blown light bulbs 5. Think about the long term health of your beautiful cottage. A Sustain/Maintain program to attend to rotting windows, gutters, facilities (I fixed the loo seat for you but had no tools to sort the loose taps), check the roof tiles for security as evidence of leaks. This is not to pick but to give constructive feedback to the owner to ensure this beautiful building is maintained for decades to come. We would rebook and stay again it was so comfy. The people in the village made us really welcome and we are so lucky to have found your gem in the Dale's.

  • "A lovely cottage, full of character, really clean and with all the amenities you need for a memorable break in Middleham."

Beds were super comfortable. Steps between rooms were a bit of a trip hazard for me, so needed to be careful, but as it is a very old property not unexpected. Right next to the tea rooms which happened to be closed that week, but it looked nice. Lovely to see the racehorses trotting though the village on the way to the gallops. Some nice walk suggestions supplied by the owners along with a welcome basket. Owners were very helpful, thank you.

  • "Well appointed and well maintained."

Low door frames and steps into and out of lounge to dining room and kitchen are a hazard for anyone of medium height and upwards. Access to bathroom for the front bedroom not too convenient especially at night, but otherwise the property is very comfortable. Located in the heart of Middleham which has good amenities and the town of Leyburn close-by. Lovely countryside surrounding and would book again.

  • "Lovely property - stayed here for a second time as it’s well located for the Dales, Lakes and surrounding areas."

Short walk out the back past the castle which is right next door, plenty of pubs in Middleham with our favourite being Richard III. The fish and chip shop is a few doors down and made an easy option for dinner. Property was warm even whilst it was -6 outside, with a wood burning stove and electric heating. Only feedback point would be a suggestion for some sharper knifes in the kitchen! An easy fix hopefully! Would happily stay in the cottage again….

Has everything there you could possibly need. Extremely comfortable beds. Perfect location, very picturesque place to stay with 3 pubs, castle, village stores and a fish and chip shop with a minutes walk. Lots of grand buildings to see. Plenty of beautiful places nearby to visit. Racing yards everywhere so we watched the horses going past every morning from our window.

Every need was catered for and a lovely touch with the welcome goodies. Ideally placed to visit the many villages of the Dales. The only disappointment was the coffee shop next door was being remodelled into a B & B which would have been somewhere we would have visited daily. After many years of renting cottage throughout the UK this was by far the nicest appointed. A real credit to the owners.

What a lovely cottage in a fantastic location.A castle at the top of the road (50 metres) the horses parading past your window every morning and the locals warm and friendly. The cottage is well equipped with plenty of space ,two large adjoining bedrooms that can closed off if couples are occupying ,then the rear bedrooms access to the bathroom is down a set of stairs off your bedroom across the ground floor and up the main stairs,we didn’t find this a problem at all. Internet access was in and out but what the hell we are on holiday. We departed castle hill a fortnight ago ,wish I was back .Its really lovely a gem.A fantastic cottage in a great place.

Lovely cottage with everything you need BUT please be aware of the steps up and down to the different rooms - this might not be suitable for the elderly. The sitting room was comfortable but quite dark due to the small window. We were four Facebook friends ages ranging from 58 to 85 so it was quite awkward when we realised that the two double bedrooms were interconnecting and you had to walk through the one to get to and from the bathroom….. no privacy for the person in the one nearest the bathroom! It was like sleeping in a corridor at times

We are glad you enjoyed Castle hill cottage and being so close to the historic castle it is a unique position. The cottage is very old and characterful, this includes a secret door between the upstairs bedrooms which many families and children enjoy, But if privacy is required the door can be locked both sides and each bedroom has its own access by different staircases. I hope you discovered this before the end of your stay. Property Owner

As it is in a small town there were a few little small town particulars to be aware of such as best times to get a car park close to the cottage etc, however these were all explained to me by Lawrence when I called him a few days prior to our arrival. As to the cottage itself, it was within a stones throw of the castle and the small town shop so ideally placed. The interior of the cottage was all very pleasant and tastefully modernised whilst still retaining the character of the original building. Should I find myself back in this area I will certainly look at booking this place again if availability permits.

We stayed when it was great weather so the cold ground floor rooms weren't a problem. (To be expected in an old cottage). We never lit the fire which would resolve theses issues. We loved listening and watching the steady stream of race horses passing the cottage on a morning. 2 min walk to the castle and a tearoom next door (we used their outside tables in the morning for breakfast to watch the horses).

The cottage was well equipped for cooking but sadly lacking in a few basics for dining; there was only one knife fork and spoon per person - with one left over (difficult when one is serving a four course meal!) no serving dishes or serving spoons, no bread knife, no jugs other than a measuring jug, five odd red wine glasses and no white wine glasses other than two small champagne flutes. While we understand that most people will probably eat out while at the cottage 'fully equipped' should mean just that. The broken window which we found on arrival took three phone calls to satisfy the Sykes staff but when Mr Burton became involved was quickly dealt with. The cottage was tastefully decorated and furnished and spotlessly clean.

Just what we wanted for a chilled out Christmas in such a amazing part of the country. The cottage is lovely, so much better than it even looks on the photos. All the added touches were great, the Christmas decorations and even our table for decorated for us for Christmas Day! Totally unexpected but very much appreciated! We had such a magical time! Just a couple minor points to be aware of, if you are taking a dog with you there is no yard to let them out so it means more walks for toilet trips. Lovely extra details such as a welcome hamper and bathroom sets, but other extras need more regular checking - felt a little 'end of season', eg. scented candles around the house mostly finished and not replaced which was a shame as they're a lovely luxury touch.
