  • "Cleeve Cottage was just as advertised."

A comfortable stay with every thing we needed, a well maintained cottage. The centre of town was in easy walking distance, with a choice of places to eat and drink and plenty of interesting places to visit close by and further afield. We had a good time and would be happy to book again. There was a road diversion from the town centre to the cottage but once we knew where we were there was no problem.

  • "Cottage was well equipped, well-located, and had everything we needed."

A smart TV would have been a nice extra, but not essential. The kitchen was very well equipped, which was great as we do a lot of cooking, and the beds were comfortable and the shower really pretty good for an electric shower. Also, when we had a small problem with it, the landlord was very quick to respond and turned up within the hour.

Thankyou for your feedback. Just to be clear the Shower (new this year) is working perfectly, however, the touch controls are quite sensitive. Full instructions are in the Cottage Guide. Property Owner

  • "Very clean and well presented, a nice house in a quiet area, only a short walk from the village centre."

Although the weather didn't permit it, we would have been loathe to use the outdoor furniture, which is rusty. Inside the house, everything is provided for self-catering and a comfortable stay. We enjoyed our break there.

Thanks for you feedback. I have refreshed the outdoor dining table and chairs. Cushions are provided for comfort. Property Owner

  • "We liked Cleeve Cottage a lot."

It was nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and had everything you needed.. with one exception: a fridge with a freezer compartment would have been useful! And, though this may be a personal thing, we found the bed in the main bedroom rather uncomfortable, with a lumpy mattress and hard pillows! But otherwise we really liked the cottage.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. There is a good sized cupboard freezer in the garage which is available and ready for customers use. Property Owner

Very comfortable beds with crispy sheets. Kitchen as described, very well equipped. We did not use the log burner as not needed but looked a nice touch. Would visit again for a comfortable and pleasant stay.

  • "Our family of four had a lovely stay in cosy Cleeve cottage."

The cottage is well equipped - kitchen had everything could ask for - has good wifi, comfortable beds and is in a great location for visiting local landmarks such as Aysgarth Falls and Middleham castle (also Forbidden Corner, Castle Bolton although these were closed at the time of our visit - we will need to return!) The owner had provided details of local walks and we enjoyed following one of these from the cottage around Middleham and nearby Coverham. We recommend.

  • "A couple of minor problems we had."

The toilet doesn’t flush properly, it needs multiple handle pulls. I suspect the diaphragm in the flushing mechanism is split. The house is horrendously hot, 27 degrees. I tried to adjust it as per the book but made no difference. I suspect the heating is on all the time. The creaking floor boards everyone complains about haven’t been repaired. There are large cobwebs hanging from the cupboards and ceiling in the kitchen. Most surfaces, window sills etc haven’t been cleaned in a while.

Thank you for your comments. The Heating is provided by Fischer electric radiators. Each has its own control. They are set at a daytime and a night-time temperature. Guests can adjust the temperature in each room by pressing + or - and can be easily switched off. I don't recognise your comments regarding the cleaning, but we will double check on each change over. • "The cottage is cosy."

Cleaning should include taking the cushions off the sofas. the vacuum cleaner is broken. The heating system doesn't work as per the cottages instruction leaflet so either baking hot or chilly. Kitchen facilities were good and the beds were comfortable. The pressure in the shower is pathetic..rinsing shampoo out of hair took a long time.I wrote all this on a separate sheet of paper left in the visitors book so that the owner could address it.

Thankyou for your comments and I apologise for any problems you encountered. I read in the Visitors Book that in addition to these comments you noted the cottage was "a good place to stay and is well equipped". For balance I have now removed the Visitors Book as guests are leaving lots of positive comments in there and those with issues reporting to Sykes on here. Regarding the cleaning we have improved our processes to check more thoroughly. I have replaced the vacuum cleaner. I have also replaced the shower with a new powerful Bristan electric shower. • "It would have been good customer service to advise beforehand that the television wasn’t working so that we could have brought DVD’s."

The patio area could have been cleaner & should have a barrier across the big drop to the grass.

Thank you for your feedback. For clarity, the TV is working perfectly. However, the North Yorkshire area has been affected by the TV Mast fire at Bilsdale which left 100,000 homes without TV signal for Freeview channels. This will hopefully be resolved soon. We note the comments and customers will be notified in advance. Apologies we didn't do that in your case. The patio area gets cleaned thoroughly at the end of the Summer season when it is vacant. • "The instructions for recycling were very unclear which meant we couldn’t recycle our bottles/ cans etc and there was no blue bag for paper and card."

This needs sorting out and clear instructions need to be given so that guests can recycle properly.

Thank you for your feedback on the recycling. I have now made available three clearly marked recycling bins, one for glass, one for cans and plastic, and one for paper. These are collected weekly. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely few days in the cottage in Middleham."

The cottage had all the facilities it needed and was very close to a local shop and pubs. The beds were really comfortable too which was great. We would definitely consider returning for another stay. The only downside we found was the WiFi didn’t always work that well and the TV seemed to be affected by this too. We had however taken DVDs so it didn’t impact too much. Overall it was great, would thoroughly recommend.

Thank-you for your comments and sorry for any difficulties . We've checked out the Superfast Broadband wifi. We have not had any issue with this in the past and it appears to be working perfectly at a high speed. The TV also appears to be working well. We have Freeview which offers all the main channels. The famous ruined castle, founded as a simple moat-and-bailey structure in the 12th century, is less than half a mile away, where fantastic views stretch across Wensleydale.

The nearby villages of West Witton and East Witton boast award-winning gastropubs and both are well worth a visit.

About the location

MIDDLEHAM

Leyburn 2.5 miles; Richmond 12 miles.

The attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The horses are a great sight as they make their way to the gallops every morning. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away offering a variety of great shops and pubs, or why not take some time to explore The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst 4 acres of grounds, providing a fun day out for all the family? All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.
