Only issue was lack of an information folder to help get logged onto the WiFi, use the heating, the electric car charger and checking out instructions. Otherwise a perfect stay.

Situated as it is in a delightful Dales village. The local pub servers excellent meals and ales all at reasonable prices. The cottage itself has all the facilities you would expect and is a real home from home. There is plenty of lovely walks from the cottage or within a 15 min drive. We are already planning a returns trip Kevin Crawley.

Also, lovely pub in walking distance is highly recommended. I would say the only slight downside, is the nearest town is Leyburn, which is a bit of a drive a way, but hey, you're the Yorkshire Dales!!!

  • "Lovely stay here."

It is a peaceful location but easy to get to lots of places from here. The Street Head in is less than quarter of a mile away and serves lovely food. Tesco deliver here which was great for stocking up when we arrived because if you’re used to a large supermarket, then there aren’t any close by, however lovely smaller shops. Be aware that to get more than 4 people around the kitchen table you need to pull it out, which makes getting around the kitchen a bit tight. My only negative would be that we were a bit cold in the kitchen on occasions as we stayed the week the weather turned and I don’t think the heating had been adjusted accordingly. I gave up trying to figure the Rayburn out and phoned the owner who advised it was due to come on but that someone would visit if not. I know it’s been mentioned in previous reviews, but a welcome pack with basic info on things like this, as well as info about the recycling bins, would be so helpful. It didn’t spoil a lovely holiday but would have breakfast a bit warmer!

  • "Lovely stay at Eastburn Cottage."

It was spotless, extremely comfortable and well maintained. We chose this cottage for the downstairs bathroom as one of us has mobility issues. While the shower area was fine the toilet is very tight for space. I would not say it was suitable for those who need an accessible bathroom. However this did not affect the overall stay and the contact lady was very helpful in providing a shower chair and ramp etc to make things easier. Thanks again.

  • "A wonderful and well equipped cottage in the quiet village of Newbiggin."

High level of equipment with excellent kitchen and utility room. The beds were some of the most comfortable we have experienced. Spacious, very clean and tidy and a lovely place to relax. The Street Inn pub very good and a few minutes walk directly down. Leyburn (with a decent Co-op store) and Hawes offer a range of opportunities and some splendid walks in the overall area. Walk a circular path to West Burton and enjoy the falls. A couple of points. Please note for customers, as previous reviews, the need for clear and short instructions for use of the Aga (not the mass of makers information). We struggled with this, there was a hand written note on them about resetting if a problem. The 'caretaker' reset all for us but we still did not get the central heating working as nothing pumped round. Also the bathroom toilet seat needs to be secured.

I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Eastburn Cottage. We will sort the bathroom toilet out thank you for letting us know. We will try and ensure that the Rayburn is working correctly . Our caretaker is always very willing to come across and sort out any problems. Thank you for your positive review Property Owner

It was ideal for our family for the week. The pub on the main road is fantastic, and make sure you visit the falls at West Burton as well as those at Aysgarth. One note, if you are over 6 feet tall (or 5'11" with your shoes on), then watch your head as the ceilings are low.

Everything had been well thought out and provided. The log burner was a wonderful bonus especially as we were there during Storm Arwen and had power cuts so at least we were lovely and warm. The Street Head Inn was a short 6 min. walk away through the lane - the food was wonderful and staff very friendly - we ate there four times and would recommend. We would recommend this cottage - a lovely warm comfortable stay.

We had lots of rain but the utility room worked a treat to dry everything. Great multi fuel burner which was fun to light but not essential to keep the place warm. The books and games were packed away due to COVID but that just reduced the number of contact points and made me feel more reassured that everything was properly clean. We took bikes and they fitted neatly in the lockable shed. Would definitely go back.

The cottage is extremely clean and comfortable with plenty of fuel for the log burner for cosy nights. The local pub (Streethead Inn) serves tasty meals and is only 5 minutes walk away. Due to COVID guidelines, we took our own cushions, fleeces and games for the cosy lounge. We had a fabulous week. The only thing we could have done with was instructions for the oven. Possibly laminated to make them COVID friendly, therefore cleanable.

We had a problem with the downstairs TV but this was quickly dealt with and we had no other problems. We visited a variety of visitor attractions - James Herriott museum in Thirsk which was very good and we liked Thirsk itself very much. We also enjoyed the Wensleydale Creamery and the Ropemakers in Hawes. We were unable to visit everything we wanted this time but we would stay at Eastburn Cottage again and would recommend it to others. We definitely liked the slower pace and less traffic of the Yorkshire Dales.

  • "The cottage is an excellent and well cared for property in a delightfully scenic part of the Dales."

Although a car is necessary to reach local towns there are interesting walks readily accessible right from the cottage door. If you have 2 cars parking in the space by the cottage is tight but just opposite on the other side of the road is a space in front of a garage that is owned by Eastburn Cottage that enables a second car to be parked satisfactorily. The dining space in the kitchen is a bit tight when the table is pulled out and extended but we managed relatively easily even though there were 7 of us. The garden is small but well kept and is perfectly adequate for sitting out in the sun if you are enjoying fine weather during your stay. If you are not, then the utility room with its drying facilities is a real boon. We would be happy to return to this property at some time in the future.

About the location

NEWBIGGIN

Leyburn 7 miles; Hawes 9 miles.

In lower Bishopdale, where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape, the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings', the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the Dales. This pretty and ancient village in the heart of Wensleydale is situated in truly beautiful countryside, with old stone cottages set out in a long line through a minor road that wends its way through the village. This is a walker's paradise, with wonderful Dales countryside, magnificent views and the small, but spectacular Cauldron Falls still delighting visitors since the days when the great artist, J M W Turner, captured its watery magic. The local pub is set on the outskirts of the village and serves fine ales and excellent homemade cuisine. There is also an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Hawes and Leyburn.
